two stroke and ferrets

Recommended Posts

2 storke and ferrets. they can both be great for ratting but the combination of the 2 is not ideal of course. first use a ferret and after that the 2 stroke would not be a problem. but first the 2 stroke and than a ferret.... does not seem like a good idea to me. but there must be a given time for the fumes to be safe to use ferrets again. just wondering what time would be needed.  has anybody here got  an idea? has anybody here been in such a situation?

I think if you put plenty of 2 stroke in the burrows mate you won’t need to use the ferret,as the fumes will put pay to them

That they do, dug many a stone dead rat out after the smoker has been used and the terriers have marked them still..

I never use a smoker and ferret combination on the same day.

In general i use a smoker, which with a heavy mix will kill most rats that dont bolt and i wouldn't have ferrets anywhere near them holes for a week at least, there's no point anyway.

Ferrets i like to save for a quieter, more traditional days ratting.

I don’t even let me dogs stand with snouts in holes when using a smoker, an wouldn’t dream of putting a ferret on after, it would only eat all dead rats if it didn’t die first

I always have just let the dogs do what they want sniffing smoking holes  and never seen any dog get wobbly from doing so either Don, iv'e seen terriers go limp due to clodded up mouths and having their muzzles up holes when ratting and no smoker was being used those times. They just have a sniff then wait if they smelt a rat or just move on and it always amazed me how the feck they do smell them with all that smoke, i'm off out ratting later as it goes and the spade is being used rather than a smoker as it's more user friendly and the folk who's place it is have never seen live ratting so it'll be easier to get a mark and show them some action by digging them out...

Just back in and a cracking little session, only about 30-40 killed but the folk really enjoyed the spectacle and just digging the rats gave the sport that has got us a right old lump of permission on the rest of the farm with a wonderful very old spring fed pond that's a good size with good sized fish in it to..Did smoke out a few holes but did better digging the marks the dogs made, will say a keeper pal who came brought his sausage dogs and one was well into the rats and i'll try to get some pics of it some time as it's size sure don't stop it from getting stuck in..
