To be fair I steer clear of hares and big fields with the young dogs. And any other game which will involve them getting towed around and disheartened. But then I dont keep coursing dogs.

if you can dishearten a pup mate it would be hard work there bouncing full of enthusiasm

more chance a disheartening one at 18month that cant use its mouth and gets shook off everytime its in cover

Like I said mate I dont keep coursing dogs, most bull x pups are a bit heavy at that age to be doing a long run on hard ground early season. Steer clear of open fields and fast stuff and knock about the woods hedges and scrub instead until they find their legs.

All pups mature at different rates some crosses quicker than others  .and everyone enters at what they think is best .me personally I like to get them out early learning .scents dangers and socialise with other dogs I have never seen a mutt learn anything in a run .I get them round ferreting round 6 months to get fur in there mouth and learning manners just one part of the lesson for a youngster

Everyone does something a little different with pups . There's no exact science to it . If your older and wiser , you learn by your mistakes and you make less of them . Once you've done right by a pup . Nurture it till second season.  Its all down to them . Unless they are being flogged . Or owners are kidding Everyone on they are out when they ain't.  Which is just as bad as flogging them .

Lots of dreamers on this thread most haven't owned a well bred dog of any type never mind a good old saluki type nor could they get the best from them ever

????

Or have

a clue about running a hound ?

Their posts shows that for everyone too read ?

Trouble with runners has always been Muppets that own them ?

Mc is no muppet he's self taught and right in what he says about pups you lot need a good head shaking that disagree ???

I bet your hounds are useless truth be known ?

See ya cos I don't want to be ya or listen to twaddle ??

And Green lurchers I was wrong your just an internet hunter I sussed that now I reckon ..

Have fun boys I will be out with the pup today not keeping it on a lead FFS ?

Juckler do you run similar lines to what desertbred on here had .he use to put some good posts up and interesting write ups

No I don't pal his are country of origin hounds..

I run good old English coursing breds they are a safer bet for me although I have just outcrossed to an old friends line of desert breds that can do what I need as have a few of the lads with the pures ..

Interesting times for the next generation ?
