Not my type  just wondered how they got wooly coat .

Norfolk lurcher, beddy, deerhound, collie etc, and whatever else, plus probably a recessive gene throwing back to some thicker coated 'saluki type' dogs from their original homelands?

Anyway, not my type either.  ?

Almost 13 year's since I joined this forum,it's great to see that topics such as this are still just as prevalent today as they were then ?..the old desert dawg's,like marmite some love em,most hate em that's just how it is ..good to see people's views regarding them especially those that have ran them..I'm not going to lie I hated them,I seen dozens run back in the mid to late 80's & 90's there wasn't a single one of them that was even bad, they were ALL utter sh##e!! Why were the ones I seen so poor? Has the genepool dramatically improved? I don't honestly know? Roll forward a quarter of a century & here's me with em,I've moved the goalposts in regard what, where & how I hunt & I'd never own a dog without Saluki blood in it now..I'm a convert,it's dog's for jobs & they excel at certain things & being honest are rubbish at other tasks,im not kennel blind or one to promote or dismiss how good a type is without testing it fully & imo Saluki blood is paramount if your main type of work is daytime other than for possibly a bit of ferreting..we all seek that 'perfect' running dog,I first got to see my first back in 1977 so 6 decades ago now & I'm yet to see that dog that excels at everything.. keep the topic going folk's,it's enjoyable ?

Anything saturated (not, just a smidge) with saluki blood is a natural born cnut ?

Yeah, that's what I was sort of alluding to lol.  Remember pics like that, and reading about the history of different sighthounds, years ago.  Probably stuck in the dark recesses of my mind.  ?

Surely in a bygone era.  The Afghan hound was a dog with a purpose.  Otherwise they wouldn't have been formed . Who's to say there sint a strain still being worked out there and we are doing the animal's a disservice.  Look at the early saluki hybrids here in the early 80s to now .  Things change , so much so that the arabs came back to the uk to help their lines out . Their lack of wisdom is our gain . Especially wiping out most prey that they ran . Jmho

Really?

So which regions hold the best dogs that see the most work, is there better types out there than the imports that were brought over here?
