NO mate, you may have to be a little strong with him to make sure he knows to leave the ferret alone but not to old at all.Your dog may or may not have chased anything live yet so won't know the thrill of the chase as such so may be easier to break him,but get them drinking milk together out of the same bowl and let them get to know each other slowly.Give them room so the dog can move away from the ferret if he feels crowded as he may snap at it,but let him know you are boss and ferrets are out of bounds. You can put the hutch down so the dog can see them and you can see how he acts with them when he thinks your not looking,my ferrets are in a court where my dogs are at ground level with them and they are used to each other.Make sure you hold your ferret when meeting them for the first time as well as i have seen ferrets bite out at the dog and the dog react back, take your time and things should be ok.Good luck mate.

cheers for the replies. the dogs not chased anything live yet,he's still at that playful, boisteres age....he does as he's told by me though and knows im boss so will handle the ferret around him and see what he's like!

this ferret(also a silver jill)is very steady and calm when held so im hoping it wont bother with the dog too much! but i had already imagined the dog just wanting to play and the ferret deciding to teach the dog a lesson....

my fell dog just will not play nice with the ferrets at all, my bitch is ok but hes a pain in the arse. tried taking it slow but to no avail. its a real shame cause he is the faster of the two and the only one who comes close to catching running rabbits but got to make sure i have hold of him if the ferrets are doing there thing.
