Its not a first x, far from it, but I put the whippet Russell dog over my pat springer bitch last year and kept a couple of bitches back, and another couple close to me, with a view to putting a grew over one of them in the future if they are good enough. If everything goes to plan I think they would suit me, basically whippet terrier crosses with a dash of spaniel. I'll be happy to have kept the old dogs blood going too and he's been good as has the busher bitch. It's a long term plan and it's meant next season and probably the one after I won't have a lurcher to run so I hope it doesn't end badly lol. You never know unless you try though I guess 1 Quote Link to post

By the time I was 13 i was looking for something with a bit more versatility. Quote Link to post

shaaark 10,851
Not a first cross, but something I've thought of more than a few times over the years, a 3/4 greyhound 1/4 german shepherd. I get on with gsd temperament etc, owned a cracking bitch years ago. 3/4 greyhound, as I believe they'd be a little more versatile than a first cross, but I'm basing that on a lot of the ground I've ran dogs on, the last so many years, so maybe a tad unfounded? But you really do need plenty of pace in most of these places. 1 Quote Link to post

I did consider putting Birds Buck over a galgo as no one was using him as a stud and it seemed a shame, recon he would bring a lot to a racy type of lurcher for those wanting something with a bit of strength but plenty of brain, but worried about homing all the pups so decided against it 2 Quote Link to post

A half galgos bull terrier be slower than half grey bull terrier but if kept 3 pups back then ran them all at once you might have some luck but at least with half bull grey you only need 2 less shit to pick up Quote Link to post
