Hand Finishing Walnut - Quest for perfection is almost painful

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone.... So I've got this expensive chunk of walnut... Modified so decided to hand finish it.... It is without doubt the most painataking yet rewarding time consuning thing I've ever done.

I'm not sure to refinish my LGV which needs it most badly thanks to a previous owner low on patience Nx high on cheap varnish fumes...

This gun stock oiling thing... You can do it once or twice and leave it.. Looking flat and standard, but when you apply to coat after that all of a sudden the grain pops out at you. But also the hand application process shows its limitations, when you get close to the final coats as I am now, it seems wise to leave longer curing so the previous coats can't be flattened to key a final light near perfect coat for conditioning... I've used the comb on its own as proof of this. Despite this Walnuts annoying. It's so detailed, different and dense grain appears almost as slight imperfections in the light as it glances.... You can't go after them.. All those minor imperfections, you risk nervous breakdown and bankruptcy.

I just found out that they make this stuff in cans. And... I was like sh"t. Why didn't you tell me...

The light application through lint free cloth supplied does not lay enough oil in the first coats the walnut hoovers it up like a drunk on Xmas morning.

Bloody hell I have the bottle to show ya.

In case I balls it up.
