Wolfdog91 7,089
Soooo I've been wanting to hit up a farm pond that I know has common and gras carp in it before work but I wanted to try something different. I already have a rod pod I made for my bite alarms so figured I might as well go all out and try to make some bollies lol. I have no real clue what I'm doing honestly, watched like three YouTube videos and spent like $10 on supplies so figured I'd post me bumbling along at 2 a.m trying to make some bollies. Hopefully the pros can give me some tips.....or I give someone a laugh or two , either or So I was advised shredded wheat, high gluten flour, a egg and some jello mix is all you really needed so I went and got generic eveything also have some bread crumbs I don't have a old coffee grinder or anything so I just put the shredded wheat in a zip lock bag and pounded it with a rubber mallet......after I kinda exploded the original bag it came in .... Not very strong those cereal bags I figured the carp would love extra strawberry scent from the shredded wheat so I got it over the regular Then I mixed it in with a even amount of bread flour, how much exactly...I have no clue , you can probably tell why I'm not good at baking And then I added one packet of strawberry jello. And I gotta say I love making this stuff , has my kitchen smelling like a dang bakery alot nicer than messing with catfish stink bait ! Now the videos said all I need was one egg so one large egg And mix! Hmmm I don't think I added enough wet so I added another egg , mixed alot better buuuut to wet so had to add more flour, probably should have just tried to kneed it .. yeah i went thought this process of too wet to dry for like 10min Hayyyy there we go ! Looking good imo, smell amazing to ! Wonder how it would take if I baked some And about five minutes of rolling later , Almost looks like I know what I'm doing right ? And boil for 5min Ok so apparently when they float their done ! Strain all the water ,by the way are they supposed to lose their smell during boiling ? Then let them dry out for about a hour Now I was told that if you microwave the same mix for about 30-45sec they will become pop ups. Something about the egg expanding in the mix so into the microwave the next batch went. And yeaaah I know I need to clean my microwave I think I may have cooked them too long or something because they don't float, mabye they need to dry more ? And after that I figured I had the jist of it so I made another batch but with bread crumbs added and with pineapple jello. These came out about better imo. Don't smell as strong as the strawberry though Anyhow hope somone got a laugh or has some advice possibliy. Hopefully can get out on the water in the morning and see what the carp and catfish think Edited May 25, 2021 by Wolfdog91 3 Quote Link to post
BEARINATOR 2,869
Looks good, if you want them to float put them in the microwave instead of the oven Quote Link to post
Wolfdog91 7,089
Welp got out the house kinda late but was hoping for some action. No where locally really sells carp specific gear so I improvised. Wide gap #2 I think bait hook , 65# braid and a bass quick snap. Not super fancy but alot sneaker than what fish around here normally see Didn't have a bait needle either so I just straightened out a hook and used that, works pretty good And I haut use a piece of rubber band for a bait stop And my PVC rod pods doing their thing Seriously wish I knew about these bite alarms years ago so nice to be able to put them out and sit in some shade 4 Quote Link to post
Wolfdog91 7,089
So everyone told me yeah you should try them because never catch a turtle !.......I've leard these are lies and apparently turtles like pine apple and strawberry O ok yeah...I totally didn't repair this rod already and this is why I buy $20 combos much less of a hear break when ( not if ) you breath them. Never had these problems with my solid fiberglass tipped rods though On the bright side their not able to swallow the hook on one of these deals so just had to do a little doctoring and he was good to go y'all don't tell Kens Deptuys I held the little guys up by the tail Edited May 25, 2021 by Wolfdog91 3 5 Quote Link to post

In my local area we have largemouth, smallmouth ,spotted bass and saltwater bass in our local rivers. they keep everything elses numbers low.I actually don't know alot about pickerel but I have accidentally caught them in our creek while fishing a crawdad crankbait for bass. But honestly only ever seen a handful caught but always a small creek and always small crawdad crankbait. As wolfdog said around here it's all about the Church of BASS. 1 Quote Link to post
