timjim 43
i have done some searches here but have not found what i am looking for, i am interested in my next dog being a lamping dog for rabbits etc, and want a whippet type as they are small, i have lots of experience with staffies and want to know a bit more about the dogs this cross will produce, my staffie i have now is 11 years old is still very athletic and has proven himself many times and wouldnt mind a pup from him if i could find a proven whippet to breed from, please can someone give me some advice without tearing me to bits if this is a bad idea of mine Thanks Tim Quote Link to post

marko 30
great dogs whippets for rabbits ,nothing quicker off the mark and can turn on a sixpence, look for breeding with nimrodel/laguna line in it and you wont go far wrong.incidently they ate more than a rabbiting dog and would also make good ratters and work the cover, good luck with your search. davidlloyd 16
I've posted some pics of my whippets if you want to have a look. The thread was called 'Some of Mike Brown's Whippets'. You'l see these are quite strong dogs, no need of bull blood in them. Peoples opinions are that Mike Brown put some bull blood into them years ago. I'm not sure about this but they are all KC reg whippets. Quote Link to post

Lurchandhistribe 0
dont be saying stuff like that some kc do gooder will be off to the kc a get whole load of dogs banned from racing n stuff. have a laguna(coursing) x parkstone(racing) dog hes only four half months but bright as a button, fearless and shows great promise. hes already jumping two foot horse fences when larking around in aunts garden. have met one bull whippet first cross, he was apparently the raciest in the litter and despite being mustard on rats lacked pace for anything else on his own, was handy to have around with another dog tho Quote Link to post

COMPO 54
I have seen 2 STB x Whippets, one was owned by an old school mate and was a little fat black lump! The second one i saw was with a bloke at a pub, it just looked like a slightly built staffy, he stated it chased rabbits and had killed a few rats, but he didn't work it Cant see what one would give you over a pure whippet, when you start to get to less than half cross obviously the more running dog the faster , i can imagine a 3/4 or 7/8 whippet looking and acting very much like a whippet There has been clouds over certain KC lines regarding possible outcrossing, this apparently all started from a colour in one litter being alleged to not be possible from the colours of the parents used? dont know but to register with the KC all you need is the signature of the stud dog owner! timjim 43
thanks for the replies so far guys, let me put my question another way, when we were allowed to catch reds on the lamp with dogs , was this a good cross?, i am not talking about the pot bellied show type KC staffie i am talking the taller more athletic type, there are plenty of these still around, there are still people about who breed staffies for whats inside rather than what they look like Quote Link to post

SkeetChamp 0
I would get a whippet x greyhound or something like that because they are best for rabbits if you only what him/her for rabbits Quote Link to post
