Hello to all.

I would like some help with our lurchers coat. Luna is 3 this year, her Mum was a Border Collie x Whippet (merle) her Dad a Whippet x Greyhound (Non-Merle). I think she has the harlequin merle modifier gene, I don't think she is double merle, her Dad was not cryptic as far as we can tell. She has no helth issues eyesight excellent and her hearing is as selective as any lurcher.

She is a stunning wee dog, very unique markings, great temperament.

Any help appreciated.

Aye it's Merle...

You don't get Merle whippets or greyhounds, so it can't be double Merle if breeding is correct

Hi thanks for the replies.

I was just curious to get to get any more knowledge on her markings, I''m certainly not concerned or worried about it, I love her markings.

Yeah she's a "Born on the wrong side of the tracks" kinda girl...I doubt the breeding has been pure for generations.

Thanks for the input everyone.

Going off your post you don’t know much about dogs but yes it’s Merle off the collie and you don’t get Merle whippets or greyhounds unless crossed to a Merle collie  only, the only other way is if the black and white collie carries the Merle gene and it looks like you enjoy her in its pet form from the working side.

Think he means a cryptic Merle

A cryptic Merle still shows signs of the Merle colouring when you look close enough

That’s very true, it usually shows a hint here or there but I’ve seen some dark dogs where you wouldn’t immediately spot it, but if you’re looking you would, if that makes sense.

Yes I bred one like that looked brindle but had a bit of Merle colouring inside one leg

Morning, taken a step back from quad bikes and hounds - Don’t need the grief anymore. Having moved house my country has changed, curious of those that do hunt the hills with their lurches and a terrier at your heel, how do you bring them on? Getting the right dog for the job is no brainier but what about the training? Thanks.

      **sorry for the double post**
I know I'm probably going to get the piss severely ripped out of me for asking this, but
Has anyone ever successfully trained a deaf lurcher (from two working parents and I own her 4 year old sister who is an awesome little bunny basher.)
Genetically she has potential, but...what do you experts think?
She's not a Double merle by the way, it's extreme piebald/white head. Her vision is perfect
