Acceleration Speed At maximum acceleration, a greyhound reaches a full speed of 70 kmh within 30 metres or six strides from the boxes, traveling at almost 20 metres per second for the first 250 metres of a race. The only other animal that can accelerate faster over a short distance is a cheetah that can reach speeds of 109 kmh over 3-4 strides from a standing start. The greyhound can maintain an average speed of 16.45 metres per second over a 500 metre race, decreasing to around 14.6 metres per second as it crosses the finish line. Obviously they've never seen a beddyXwhippet Like TOMO said a grey or big lurcher isn't gonna be in the same league as a whippet, when ferreting or in small field busts. That info is based on straight lines/track, not in real world (maybe the cheeta) scenarios but a cheeta ain't running dry wall lined fields after a couple of rabbits Quote Link to post

Aussie Whip 4,100
I was always led to believe the whippet is the fastest land animal over 50m. 1 Quote Link to post

Fair enough, I'd like to see that mate I still think whippet blood is better suited for small fields and ferreting whereas bigger dogs for open land and longer courses. SheepChaser 8,089
So...... I have a question and I’m looking for honest answers. We hear it a lot on here and I’m sure there are lads at it. But how many folk on here either have or do, catch 3-4 foxes a night, 3-4 nights a week through the season. With same dog /s. That’s 40-50 foxes a month, so September - feb would be 240-300 foxes a season with same dog / s. Can anyone honestly say they have owned it known a dog that’s caught 200-300 Charlie a season and how many seasons did it do? Because a dog with a four year working life like that would be doing 1000 foxes. Just asking ........ 7 Quote Link to post
