Hare braking.

Whats do you all do to prevent stop a youngster from huning hare appart from the obvious,I've a six month old bitch just started hunting hare and I want her for fox,shes beagle/harrier over beagle/border terrier.

Theres plenty of foxes on the same ground but she still prefers hares I suppose beagle and harriers are bred for hare shes only doing what she bred for really.

It's a tricky one because the beagle bred to hunt hare like a springer iv never owned a gun but all the springers I kept would still hunt a pheasant if one was around only problem for you is a hare will go on for miles where as a pheasant will just fly off once out of cover

It will come back round eventually but seriously get some mates together  to act as whips to keep them right. They should soon learn

Hares run in big circles but when they keep getting up deer are worse they really do go for miles.

Probably still to young to be worrying about hunting Cubs are tiny scent is shite. get the recall right Then worry in September

Where I am in southern Ireland fallow deer are everywhere biggest pain in the arse when running any hound type often wasted days hunting looking for hounds that got on deer but did have days where hare took hounds through forestry a few times

Hare are the bane of my life with my two beagle/cocker type bitches.

Always tried to center the bushing I do with them around rabbit but hare scent undoubtedly excites them more and they've never even had hold of one.

It can be a chore at times but I try my best to avoid areas that hold hare like the plague. 

A lot of country lanes and the odd main road within a mile or two of where I bush and a pushed out big ears could potentially result in a flattened dog because they will trail the scent like a smackhead to an unlocked shed.

Talking to an old mate recently and he was telling me how some lads with beagle blooded bushing dogs bushing have this problem also they will line out on roe as well as hare's .

Plenty of deer round my neck of woods and lots of roads some quiet some busy and that is why as much as i'd love to have a hound type for bushing i can't have one as it will more than likely end bad.

The problem started when I left her loose in the yard she has access to all the land around plus theres leverts moved into the sheds about the yard thats what kicked her off on them.

Beagle xs became popular / in vogue but a lot of folk are using them for stuff and on ground which isn’t really suited to the x.
