Can anyone give me advice on how to catch out those crafty magpies.

I keep putting food out for them so as to entice them to a reasonable shooting range but i rarely get them close enough.

Any ideas? <_<:hunter:

ive been told that aswell millet but cant find the damn things. i find if i pot 1 and stay still and leave the first 1 were it fell others will come and shout there heads off (till you shoot them too :D) attracting more magpies. i usually bait them up at about 25yds for shooting them with my .22 air rifle. they'll get used to coming down after the food but remember there eyesight is spot on so keep still and hidden. B) they usualy come arond the chicken pens after scraps of food but.... :hunter::yes:

right i have never tried this but i was told by a game keeper so i might have been having my leg pulled .......

you will need one ferret, one harness and one piece of this twine

peg in floor one end of string tied to it ,ferret in harness and other end of string tied to arness

place in field about 25 yards from where you want to shoot.........apparentley the feckers just keep comming in even with the dead and dieing laying around the place

try it if it dont work dont tell anyone i told you about it ok lol

of course i wouldnt do anything like that, nor would i use a CD containing magpie calls to bring them in as thats a bit naughty as well

cant beat a split open rabbit for a maggie fenzy - unless you know their roost

PS - i hate the buggers too - nearly had my truck wrote off thanks to a maggie attacking a blackbird - the fight spilled out into the road and the old dear coming the other way decided to swerve to avoid em - heads straight for my truck instead- a bit of pavement driving for me just saved the day!!!

I hate them with a passion, and i use my .22 air rifle and put out some road kill, or another method i have used is to make a smallish nest out of twigs and put 2 eggs in it (one broken) then put a crow decoy.. It works a treat, and when you shoot your first one, it's a useful decoy against green backround of a field.

Hope this helps :D

All the magpies around my area roost in Hawthorns almost without fail.Look for a decent stand of thorns on road sides or around edges of woods. Then get under them and look for there shite on the floor and on the branches above you. This time of year you are likely to find decent numbers roosting together.1/4-1/2 moon, plenty wind and you will bag plenty birds with an odd pheasant for dinner :good:
