pesky1972 5,320
The way some young people speak. Not just the slang words that I don’t understand, they’ve always been about, but just the way some talk. Treated myself to a bacon roll at the bakers this morning. When the 20 something year old server put the roll down and asked if that was all, I pointed to the bottle of juice I’d placed right in front of him on the counter, to which he said “oh, and a cheeky wee bottle of coke zero”. Now, if I’d just tipped a miniature of whisky into it then fair enough, but I didn’t, so what the fcuk? No need for it. 1

In regard to pretending that they cannot see you (I deal with this every day even more so now since Tyne Bridge down to 1 lane), easily resolved, lower your window, stick your head out, smile and wave... very few are stoical or ignorant enough to avoid eye contact. You get the eye contact for a brief second, then you're in. Then you say thank you. Them make a point of letting other people in.

It’s no big deal lads, it just gives one recognisable title to things that everyone understands, it’s no different to: Man on Time Step up Turn Look up Space Terminology that works everywhere at every level for everyone. I can’t think of a better descriptive term for say, break lines, for what it actually means…..most of those terms are used for instructional purposes and people don’t learn with long winded descriptions, simple, to the point and everyone knows what it means and requires. Can you imagine having to give the full description of “Off side” every time you talk about it instead of just saying “Off side” ? lol

Same as me mate you will have chatted footie with many people over many years, you cant tell me anyone was using the jargon they are coming out with today much more than about 5 years ago.....but same as the other stuff its just become trendy thats all.

Totally agree all these new terms or pointing to the sky etc I hate it and how top flight football has become now I would rather stand on a park or in a non league or lower league ground than some top prem place i think given the numbers the atmosphere is better and atleast the supporters know or recognize each other and the lads playing are normally genuine and there's no var nonsense or rolling about if you get tackled

I agree, all “relatively” recent terms but the quality of technical coach education has moved on light years, they found good terms to convey meanings and it’s just filtered down……don’t blame me, blame that game when we got absolutely rinsed by Portugal with Louis Figo etc lol….and everyone started talking about the lack of technical ability in English football……hey presto, St Georges park, fifa badges…the whole lot. They are just everyday work terms in reality, only difference between that and another job is that 20 zillion people don’t watch 22 bricklayers for and hour and half on a Saturday mate. lol
