Whiteboy 22
First post. I'm in the US and just getting my first whippet. Looking to run a few jackrabbits and cottontails, could possibly get into foxes as well. Some guys here are running coyotes, which I would need a bigger dog to do. What crosses have you liked best for an all-around dog? Quote Link to post

SheepChaser 8,089
Most of the best dogs for a bit if everything I’ve seen have had bull grey and x blood, usually either saluki or collie. But failing that just a bull grey. Lurcher to Lurcher types of the above though. 1 Quote Link to post

They use Oz staghounds on most game here but they aren't as good as whippet types on rabbits and too light for pigs imo. Quote Link to post

Just be careful not to give it too much too young, maybe stick with non biting quarry to start with to build confidence. Should be good for rabbits, maybe Jack rabbits and those little grey foxes you have over there. I've never seen them but they look smaller than red foxes. Sometimes whippets are braver than they should be so bear that in mind too. Good luck 3 Quote Link to post
