I remember reading in the book Hunter a great white hunter who's best dog got killed by one that went to ground backwards as they are known to do and the dog followed it in to be killed by it.

Boars do that here backing into wombat holes. The mrs had an old pigdog that would stand above the hole while the other dogs teased the boar out then he'd grab the back of it's neck and hold while the other dogs pulled it out by the ears.
