Trouble is, mate; " The overspill " is Still pouring across the channel, even as we speak.

Oh mate, I get it... I'm lucky to live where I do but I've travelled around and worked in enough places to see what happens to towns, neibourhoods etc...so the overspill will not be people you want to come into your communities, in the main they will be the people other councils want rid of.... as some parts of the country are now so covered in building land has ran out, Devon has its first new town built since the middle ages with a council to run it, no idea who picked the councillors for this new town on the very edge of my town....I was certainly never asked to vote them in....

Aye, you know why don’t you.......lol

I think we can safely say you won’t be getting many of the type who wanted to escape.

Probably do what they did in Newham, Tower Hamlets and Barking & Dagenham and give them all 20 grand to move down and f**k up your life pal

Mate we haven't got the draw like London, Birmingham, Manchester etc.. there are some big businesses bringing distribution centres on the outskirts of the city, Amazon, Lidls main hub is f***ing huge, the met office main place has been here 15 years or more and brought a load of people down (our old neighbours relocated from edge of London to work there, some born hunter scientist sorts! Lol)... but we haven't got the population or infrastructure here to massively grow....but... weve got hundreds of thousands of acres of green land....

Our cities (Plymouth and Exeter) arent particularly multi cultural, probably more students of other ethnic backgrounds than anything... I was told our council had done a deal with Liverpool and Birmingham to take overspill....so no doubt these new estates will be a bit different

The housing prices and demand are through thd roof at the minute, mainly with affluent types escaping the big cities... I was talking to an estate agent in North Devon last week and she said there is huge demand now people realise they can work from home, thd pandemic has probably changed peoples views and I guess the country life is even more appealing now

i speak to alot of people all over the country and this is something that always pops up. your right about the infrastructure; our infrastructure in plymouth is even worse then exeters. we have no motorway, no airport, even with the uni alot of graduates cant work in their chosen fields here, we dont have the really big posh houses with land so people don't want to come here or get here.

the biggest multi cultural aspect i have witnessed is eastern Europeans.  my kids schools have a fair population of them now, probably 40 plus but ethnicity i could count on one hand.

in the last few weeks ive spoke to several estate agents in places such as london, birmingham and manchester. everyone is leaving the cities and not just because they can work from home but because during the lockdown we all had places on our doorstep to exercise that are beautiful; what have they got? urban parks surrounded by concrete

Mate, I know you are a “glass half full” type lad and I have always liked that about you.

Trouble is, in this instance, I know how this ends up because I have lived through it pal.

That new town will be a base for them to range out across the county, it will be exactly like my old area.....home invasions, stabbing, massive increase in county lines and their associated workers, all the nice 4x4 and cars getting nicked every night of the week.

Rural is better for them in many ways because there’s not many eyes and plod is always a journey away, nobody next door blah blah

Im afraid there is absolutely nothing good to say about it.

Its the same story all over mate, it breaks me......we put a price on everything and value f**k all over there at the moment.

I hope my worst fears don’t come true for you mate, I genuinely mean that.

My old area never had the infrastructure and still hasn’t mate, never stopped them or even slowed them down....they just keep building and throwing out the city’s shite.

Ha, cheers mate...but I'm a complete realist and certainly not blind.

Mate I spent years working away, renting houses as the contracts were usually long term, so on jobs on the edge of London, Manchester, Sheffield, Birmingham etc...usually big superstores with the longest being an 11 month contract in Bracknell...I've seen it and that's why I love my area so much..... I always say I love going to the city but I love coming home more... had a meeting in Tower Hamlets a few years back with an Egyptian chap, sat in a rsturant for a few hours with him, then had a walk about that night before getting in my digs... what a shit hole!! Lol

I've done all I can for my kids mate, we are out of the city, they have plenty of land to f**k about in, their mates are all similar types, its still a nice place...

I hear you loud and clear mate....I've seen it... I might see you on the west coast in a couple of years!! Lol
