Opinions and experiences of running a pure Greyhound...

Recommended Posts

I had an ex racer when I was kid, more of a pet than a working dog but incredibly game. Same as a few of these lads said on here she was great for 4-6 slips after that she was done lol would just lay down and refuse to move (had to carry her home a few time). Again like others have also said when locked on they don't seem to notice much else mine ran into a few fences before she smashed her wrist, she was never the same after and spent the rest of her days on my sofa.

Great dog to have around, great temperament, great for a few bunnies but for long session I'd go for something with more stamina all depends what you're after.

The old first x deer/grey bitch I have was out of Westmead Hawks sister. Very fast in her day for a 29", 75lb bitch. Cheers.

get a good whippet over her....

Bones are like glass and no stamina iv a bitch here was a terrible state when I got her she was that skinny you could see the shape of her skull, when I phoned about her fella told me she was a small

I’m a coward and I do plenty with mine ?a working lurcher is meant to catch things a greyhound will usually do just that they are not bull xs but to say they don’t offer nothing you’ve not seen any work I assume

You’d be assuming wrong ive not seen many work the best I’ve seen was a courseing greyhound bitch named lady that was owned by my cousins foster parents that was half decent then a few ex track dogs we used to get hold of an do a bit with in the mid to late 90s a bloke I used to live next door to used to run greyhounds they never used to last recently say in the last 10yrs a mate of mine as had 3 2are dead ones alive still but completely done for. I think greyhounds offer little bar speed an confirmation the rest is from base blood added in my eyes greyhounds lack stamina, feet construction for work trainability for all round work. just my opinion it don’t count for nothing but if straight greyhounds offered what’s needed everyone would have one I’m not saying there won’t be tough well constructed for work greyhounds out there that could take being run regularly behind gear but they would be more rare than a box of frogs

A friend has just put a belgian shepard over a bitch he has, the bitch jumps 5 bar gates, clears double sheep fencing that's 5 foot apart with 2 strands of barbed wire on top, recall is perfect and she ain't shy at getting stuck into stuff.

Just get  a strong coursing bred dog clear 7 bar gate 40 mile an hour 8 foot dyke with sheep fence 2 strands a wire over side in one  lol you don’t need to go to a shephard for a strong jumper There’s quality hunters already jump better than any shephard Mali ??

Its a full greyhound bitch that's doing the jumping, id say the shepard has never jumped a garden gate never mind a 5 bar gate. Lol.

As far as adding that fluffy plodder blood goes he'd rather have me give him 10 kicks up the ass from the front. Lol.

No mate I’ve been out with a good few though like been said on here by lads they great for point and slip on the lamp for a few seen them kill big dog fox hitting them that hard nasty killers

good day time for a few bends always exciting with a oohs and ahhhs

I had a good lamper daytime dog bred from a grey to heavy Sal dog great pot filler but barmy lol

You have to remember greyhound was always doubled up really even coursing back in day or bet on dog with most bends etc it was never about killing but chasing speed ??

I've never had 1 either our Robert had 1 once wernt the best

      **sorry for the double post**
I know I'm probably going to get the piss severely ripped out of me for asking this, but
Has anyone ever successfully trained a deaf lurcher (from two working parents and I own her 4 year old sister who is an awesome little bunny basher.)
Genetically she has potential, but...what do you experts think?
She's not a Double merle by the way, it's extreme piebald/white head. Her vision is perfect

      Evening all,
I'm lucky enough to have first pick from a friends litter. He’s crossed his Saluki dog with his Collie Bull GH bitch. I’ve only seen videos of the litter as he’s based in UK. Few different characters in the litter, some sit reluctant off in the back ground others play among themselves two are incredibly forward one more than the other.

What key things do you look for when picking a litter? I’ve mostly ran mine on rabbits, reds and some others.

      Go stead,
      oshea
