AndyD89 253
Alright lads just after abit of advice really . Im new to the Lurcher game , have always been around working dogs and have trained a couple of gun dogs to a decent standard, but as far as Lurchers go I don’t have much experience. I lost my first lurcher just before Christmas to a drunk driver flying through my village ( nearly knocking me over aswel) he was a Beddy whippet greyhound he was about 15 mounts old and I had just started to bring him on, he’d nailed a few bunnies in the daytime, an had just caught his first bunny on the lamp couple of nights before I lost him. I so enjoyed the experience I had with that dog iv just got the bug for Lurchers now. He was such a mild mannered and biddable dog , so gentle around the house an with my daughter, just a absolute joy to work with, an was showing promise in the field , was bloody gutted. Anyway I’m on the hunt for a pup now for a sensible price in Cumbria or north west if anyone knows of any??? Open to any x really , was thinking something similar to the dog I lost , or possibly a collie greyhound type?? Open to suggestions really?? What would anybody recommend??? The dog would be rabbiting dog for bit of ferreting and lamping, fairly rough ground round my way and on the whole smaller fields . Any advice much appreciated lads. Been reading a lot of threads on here, found It really interesting and helpful Quote Link to post
shaaark 10,876
Wouldn't have thought you'd have too long a wait for a pup of those crosses, or a mix of both, up your way. Sure there's a few lads with both crosses/types up your way. Might be an idea to get in touch with poxon, on this site. He has a cracking bitch of that type at the moment, and knows people with that type of lurcher. Perhaps he could put you onto sonething? Probably a couple more on here with that type, but he was the first that came to mind. Good luck in your search. 1 1 Quote Link to post

AndyD89 253
Spot on thanks for the advice bud Been looking for quite a while now , everything seems to be bull crosses at the moment , been looking in usual places, gumtree etc. They either seem to be crazy money like a grand plus , or like I say more of a bull cross type, witch I don’t think would really be suitable for me, as I’m just after a rabbit dog really . I don’t really know many out and out lurcher men to contact about it really as iv always been more involved in the shooting side of things. Quote Link to post
AndyD89 253
Yeh was absolutely heart breaking , put a lot of time and effort into that dog. lost dogs before , but they were old and at the end of there life eh. This dog was just starting out, to see him smashed up they way he was hard to take, and to top it off the bloke drove off. But yeh I think it will be a beddy/collie greyhound mix is what I’m gonna go for. They way u have described them there is exactly what I’m after to be honest . Quote Link to post

moonlighter 1,164
If your on Facebook, there’s a couple of good groups, “bedlington, whippet hunting group” and “bedlington, greyhound” group. They sometimes have litters on there, although they can’t directly advertise on Facebook. 1 Quote Link to post
