landrover 6
i'm new to reloading as well, but the instructions in my kit said that accuracy would be improved by crimping just not had the weather to try the home loads yet, also some of the heads were a loose fit before i crimped them Quote Link to post
Guest baldie
As a general rule of thumb, only heavy recoiling cartridges should be crimped, that are going to be used in a magazine, as crimping doesn,t do accuracy any favours, despite what LEE say in their blurb. However, the hornet is one cartridge that does benefit from being crimped for some strange reason. Make sure, you work the load up , if you are crimping it, dont crimp a maximum load, if it was tested uncrimped, as crimping increases the chamber pressure. Quote Link to post

Guest baldie
Be careful of what you use bullet wise in the hornet. Dont accept old heads from someone "who used to reload hornet" many years ago, as the old hornet bore size was .223, and not .224 like a modern gun. Any ammo sold today is .224, so dont worry on shop bought heads. Landrover, your neck tension isn,t tight enough, what dies are you using? hornady do a specific 35 grain v-max for the hornet, which works in most magazines, thats where i would start, and probarbly, hodgdons "lilgun" powder, h4198, or h110 powder.
