There not an ancestor ok,well what's the ancestor lol

But there cousins lol so it's actually closer,so a white fox is not surprising.

You don’t throw back to a cousin though, lol. You throw back to something that came before, a grandparent etc.

Im not strictly sure what that was though mate.

But no I don’t think whites are a throw back. I think they’re simple mutations that are not advantageous.

Understandably he's being secretive with any details,I was saying it must be from the same line surely, and if it is the same lad that shot the other 2whites will be delighted to shoot every one he can

Ah come on man?

So with all your knowledge you dont know what the foxes ancestor was?

I'd say with what wee see in nature now,its ancestor was a fox.

But you say there cousins,an I would say that's even closer,so I still cant see why the artic fox an the red cant have some different colours arising without it been called a mutation.

Admittedly it wasn't the best comparison as they are not all spotted.

I was actually at first going to put you don't see striped lions but after a quick check there has been the odd case.

Now I don't know if they were tiger/lion hybrids.

Anyway, you don't see spotted tigers. ?

If neither you or I know what the red foxes ancestor is we can’t say it’s a throwback, which funny enough, I wasn’t. Lol.

Whether or not the white was caused by a recent mutation or an inherited recessive colour variant from an ancient mutation isn’t really the point. It doesn’t propagate successfully because it’s likely not advantageous.

Ok well how did natural selection select the fox to be red an the fox to be white?

Envoirment you might say,but if the fox moved to a new envoirment,by your own logic it wouldn't survive lol
