He certainly talked some shite that's for sure but I loved his books and although it's clear the bloke was a bit of a numpty he has always fascinated me to be honest. One of his books he said he had a terrier bitch that hunted a roe for 5 hours and kept catching it and he kept releasing it only for the terrier to keep catching it again 1 Quote Link to post
Rickshaw swami 4,191
I know nothing of Plummer terriers.I do know about American KC beagles. When my wife and daughters wanted an inside pet that's what I got them as I knew it would be no trouble and I knew he wouldn't bother the rabbits in my front yard. His call name is worthless. Quote Link to post

I've seen some weird and wonderful breeds and mongrels make useful rabbit hunting dogs and would have thought any Beagle type could be easily switched on to them. A KC Beagle x KC Manchester Terrier a friend owned made a superb rabbit hunter. 1 Quote Link to post
TonyT 1,450
If it came out of Plummer’s mouth , it’s a lie. if he was alive today he’d be banned from keeping dogs , and this site would be laughing at the pillock. his animal husbandry was appalling . there aren’t many people I dislike but that man lied , lied , copied and lied again . just my opinion T 8 Quote Link to post

micky 3,325
I think that Mr Plummer's biggest fault was that he made a few Bob,............over my life time none of the experts can stand a Man who can make a few Quid . 3 Quote Link to post

There may well be truth in that mate. His books were based on other lads days out not his own. working dogs and money are poles apart for me. ATB ... T 3 Quote Link to post

He's never showed an interest even though he sees them daily. In my opinion there's a big difference between a "beagle" and a rabbit dog. Most good rabbit dogs in my area look like beagle Chihuahua crosses or beagle basset hound crosses. I have seen several American KC beagles from different sources and didn't like any of them.I seen good KC coonhounds, hogdogs, even seen a good KC Russell once.I have never seen a decent hunting American KC beagle.Ive hunted with around 40 different ones from 5 sources.Just my opinion though.
