I did a big pad about 18ft x 7ft 3 inch on good hard core that was wacked down and its not moved yet or cracked only has ferret hutchs on etc and a trailer occasionally, I did the edges slightly deeper Quote Link to post Share on other sites

Anyhow, had a word with my mate who set up some boarding kennels and he says it was a 150mm x 100 mesh.all the concrete was laid over hardcore with this sized mesh and the concrete to 100mm whackered and polished. No mate.Clay is probably the worst ground going to build on as it shrinks in the summer and then swells when wet.Theres a housing estate built near me a couple of years back in an are thats all clay.Theres parts where the paths and roads have broken up all over the place.Theres houses on there that have cracked all the way from the footing to the roof plate.If you're in Kent Id happily help you out mate.Anywhere else I cant help as I cant leave this beautiful covid hotspot I live in 1 Quote Link to post Share on other sites

Elchapo 3,150 Posted February 4, 2021 Report Share Posted February 4, 2021 20 minutes ago, mC HULL said: No id more cement 3/1 2 “ paver lasts years so why wouldn’t a small slab 2” pavers are 600 x 600 so there weight is spread over a tiny area compared to a 8ft by 4 ft concrete slab for example , when the ground shrinks/ moves / drops which sooner or later it will then half of the slab will be holding the other half’s weight causing it to crack , I Layed a 8ft by 16 ft slab in my back yard when first moved in , layed it on 2 “ hardcore 4” thick concrete no steel reinforcements, bout 3 years later big crack strait through the middle and that only hAd dog pens on it , now I have the same size slab using the same size concrete type with steel reinforcement in it with full solid block work shed on it and is perfectly fine 10 year later 2 Quote Link to post Share on other sites
