New trap question

Just waiting for some new mole traps to be delivered and just want to know if anything should be done with them before i use them, cheers for any replys

I use mine straight out the box, just rub them in a fresh mole hill as your setting. Make sure a fox hasn't marked the hill though !

Don't know about mole traps but i was using FenMk6s first lot where  chained on the dog run for a fortnight to weather second lot used straight out the box and i don't think there was any difference in the catch rate .

Thanks pal, i thought theyd need to weather a bit, Ratman said rubbing them in the soil on a mole hill, both sound good so il do that, cheers lads

  On my tunnels I bend the trigger forward a little and square the bottom off with pliers. on  the top theres a wire hook that I twist so it releases easier.. 

Also used them  new without a tweak and caught plenty times. once they catch and smell of mole I keep using the same traps..

Yep, depending on the design of trap you might or might not choose to fiddle with the triggers to adjust sensitivity.  

       But when it comes to weathering ,Old Phil is spot on; let em weather on the job.

I found that the trigger latches on mine had a small lip caused by the way the wire had been cut. First thing I do is file the bottom of the latch so there is nothing to cause the trigger to hang when it is being pushed forward. Then I do what Smithie has said. If you don't bend the trigger loop you will get a lot of foul captures.

I use them straight out the box. Search for 'Mole catching with a new diesely smelling Duffus mole trap' on youtube. Bloke there using them new, he don't seem to have a problem either.

I like talpax.. cant seem to fail with them, down side is you dont get doubles.
