Wolfdog91 7,080
Yep so much for snakes being shut up for January was out in the lower cow pasture below my house song some load testing . Now there's a small creek/ditch that runs though the whole field. Usually full of frogs ,small minnows ect. Parked a few yards away from the back to get in the shade to set up my table and shoot. Well 5 of my dogs where out running around with me but by the timei started shooting all except one usually run back to the house. My chawinnie ( the little demon spawn you get when you mix a weiner dog and chihuahua) usually sits under the truck till I'm done. Well I stop to take a break walk down to the bank and see if I see some frogs or something and I see this fella cruising by. Decent size water moccasin. Their venomous and can be pretty friggen mean. I've had them swim at me from the other bank once they notice me wading around. Not to mention seems the older they get the meaner they get for some reason. But this guy didn't seem to really care I was and I personally don't like just killing snakes , I like snakes actually so just took a few pictures and went back to shooting. Well finished up and noticed my dog wasn't under the truck like normal, so decided I'd go see where she went . Where not more than half a mile from the house and she usually just walks back i don't know had a feeling I should try to find her real quick. Well walk a few yards down the bank and I see her sitting at the edge of the bank with her head cocked over to one side looking at this water moccasin about three feet away from her face floating closer in this coiled up strike position deal. Only seen this a hand full of times but anytime I've seen it they end up strike king whatever is closest. Mainly cows but other critters too. So I'm like 5 or 6 yards away ,my dog isn't scared of much even though she's like 15lbs soaking wet, wrapped in a wet blanket , so don't think it would be the best if she got bit ( I've had larger dogs get bit but be fine after a week or two of doctoring). I'm thinking she's probably about to try and bit the dang thing it's about to bite her if she moved so unholstered my sig p320 put the bead on his head and managed to pull off a decent shot. Dog about crapped her self and the bullet found its mark about an inch under his bottom jaw. Decent sized snake about four and a half foot ( that's like a meter and a quarter I think). Anyway was told I should post more turtles and snakes and stuff so there ya go . 13 5 Quote Link to post
BenBhoy 4,706
Dunno what I'm more jealous of - the fact you get cool animals like that, the fact you get to shoot a sig in your back garden, or the fact you need to find shade!! Great write up, thanks. Definitely post more like that! 3 Quote Link to post

But you have to remember Bernard that by banning them it means that the gangsters & crooks can't get their hands on them, thus making our streets so much safer......(!) Use to shoot a couple of 357. A Smith and a Taurus. A 22 browning auto. I remember someone letting me shoot his 6" smith in 44mag with 3/4 full power loads. I was shooting 1" pebbles out the berm at 25yards. A feller was struggling to shoot his colt 45acp one day and offered me a magazine full. I printed a nice tight group with it and he wasn't to pleased! I didnt like it! Give me a revolver any day. 2 Quote Link to post

I never had a hand gun but there were loads about on the ranges. It was something that I never thought about. I did have a go with one once. Some blokes made a right killing on the compensation front. It was more on the accessories than anything. Stuff like a bloke bought a plastic toy cowboy holster and that was compensated for, Big money. Lots of blokes used to pick up spent cases like 9 mm on the ranges. A bloke took a rubble sack of cases in. Some absolute scrap in there. How many you got.? 5000! Oh right well we're not counting through that lot. Paid out. I was a rifle and shotgun user. It would have been fun to play with a handgun but there wasn't any reason to have a pistol. 2 Quote Link to post

Nearest I ever got was a frog. It wasn't an aggressive frog but it was a noisy Ballard singer and I didn't like the song. It had to go. I had to barrel sight it because I kept missing with the scope being so close. 2 Quote Link to post

When father was up the jungle in Burma in ww2 they were hungry that they ate anything. He ate monkey, snake, iguanas. anything. They had tins of pilchards or sardines parachuted into a river but the tins had been stood out on a dock in the sun and the tins were blown out like football's. The fish was rotten but the Burmese locals loved it and our lads traded it for chickens and eggs. I remember him saying that the snake and iguana was like chicken and the monkeys were like pork.
