There’s a West African bar near me, owned by a proper old school West African lady (the take no shit kind lol). When you go in, there’s no menu, you just ask for food. She makes the best plate of livers I’ve ever had. Served with homemade hot sauce, rice and an assortment of other authentic plates. Bloody lovely Go for the jollof rice

I bought a full extra hot chicken and chips in the terminal and ate it on the plane No one blinked an eye at me, in-fact most were jealous. Washed it down with a bottle of wine bought in the duty free. A mate who I bumped into in the terminal (lives 2 streets away from me, small world) was sat at the front, I was at the back and he could smell it from where he was sat PMSL.

When I was in Madrid living with that Chinese family a couple of years ago, the bloke made the best chicken feet I’ve ever had. I used to come home from work late at night and they’d be a plate on the side for me with whatever they had left over, always top grub if not a little strange sometimes The best was the pork baozi for breakfast. They’d have a little post-It written in the worst Spanglish saying “por brekfist” lol lovely people.

I’d never seen them outside of a Chinese store before I moved here. Not something I buy to cook at home but will always eat them if on offer The Chinese bloke in my local always offers us some of what he makes for him and the wife and it’s never something you’d normally expect. I had some jellyfish a couple of years back. I liked it but it had no real flavour. Reminded me of tripe in vinegar.

Tried both. The urchin was delicious. The sea cucumber not so much. We have urchins all over the place here, I’ve often been tempted to harvest one to see if they’re as good as what I’ve had in the past. Spikey fuuckers though. I ended up having a load of spines broken off in my thigh once. Not a pleasant experience having them pulled out and has put me off going anywhere near them
