I did hear one of the commentators say that it can make for better breaks because it keeps the black open

I don't like it, just a negative shot IMO.

Williams has been on fire mind.

When folk always claim Ronnie is by far the best when he's at his peak I don't know if I agree with that.

I think it's more of a case of Ronnie can reach his peak more often than the other players.

Williams gives him a ten break for amazing shots, as does Trump.

Mark williams looking sharp as f**k.

But that's the game, snooker.  It's not just about looking great potting balls, might as well reduce the game to pool, if that was the case.  I think it's fine as it is.

As a wise old sage once said to me; " One stroke doesn't paint the whole picture ".........?? But I do hope the lad goes on to more success. Cheers.

I agree, it looks terrible. Snooker is hardly high octane viewing so the last thing it needs is more tactical play slowing it down. Seems the players don’t mind though.

Steve Davis and Alan McManus analyse the controversial "roll up"...

I’d make a rule that the white needs to hit the back cushion and back past the blue spot or else it’s ball in hand for the opponent. I’d also call the frame if a player needs snookers once there are no more reds on the table - watching someone pissing about needing 3 snookers when there are only 5 balls on the table is mind numbing.

Take your point, and I do appreciate the skill involved in getting in and out of snookers, just it makes me turn over when I see it happening. Snooker as a game hasn’t changed a great deal since the main events were being played in a room above a pub, with world finals finishing at 5 in the morning. And the captive audiences of the 80’s had to endure some shite boring wars of attrition. Nowadays in order to compete with all the sport on tv, it needs to appeal to the many, rather than a few purists or aficionados. To play an 8 frame session in an afternoon (inc. interval and setting up) frames need to be maybe 20odd minutes long. That’s not long so the game needs to be kept moving.
This might be over-stating things a wee bit, but I believe Hendry’s arrival, and his attacking, break building style (and not forgetting JW and AH) saved the game, and spawned a generation of like minded players. Ronnie, Williams, Higgins, and now the likes of Trump, Robertson and others keep it interesting. I think if Davis, Thorburn and Griffiths were the best snooker had to offer these days, it’d be back in  that room above the pub. Jmho.

I cant see anything wrong with the roll up to the pack break, the end result is no different to a good normal break.....i think it was Hendry said that a red left in the open and leaving the opponent a shot at it with hand on the table will result in a long pot 9 out of 10 times in todays game.....i think sometimes a good safety duel can be much more interesting to watch than a big break as the battle of minds comes into play.

Hard to see past Selby or Trump at the moment but id like to see Stuart Bingham go a bit further....Williams as well might be worth a bet he,s something like 9/1 for the tournament.

I totally agree mate, snooker is all about “knowing when”......that’s the case for most sport but is in sharp focus in snooker.

Patience is a virtue as they say

@chartpolskiyou're quiet on this, Ronnie getting knocked out hasn't cut you that deep?  ?

No, mate, I bet against him in the last final against Robertson.

I think he's past his peak, still a brilliant player, how many make five finals in a season ? Flashes of brilliance, but to many unforced errors.

Been O.D. Ing on snooker this week, watching it now.

Slowly being convinced the "Williams break off" is the way forward, stopping the long potters taking the first red.....even Hendry is coming round to it !

Cheers.
