Smart watches

Recommended Posts

Anyone got / use one.?  The Mrs has a Fitbit charge 3.  She got it to track her swimming,.  exercise with the dog and sleep patern.  She says that it shows when I  get in bed with her in the early hours.,!  Anyway I  think that its been a pile of junk since she got it. Latest is the display has gone so dark that you cant read it.  She's been on fitbit app forum and Google.  Seems like a common fault. But we can't reset it.  A new watch looks on the cards but which one. Any opinions gratefully received. A common fault with tech gear is it is very clever WHEN it works. When it doesn't,  it is just dead weight.  Computer says no.!!

Mrs got hers mainly because the daughters have them and they compare their physicaĺ performaces when they are swimming or out exercising the dog ect.  They sort of use this to encourage the others to keep up, the exercise data is uploaeđ onto some sort of comparison chart thingy that they compair their physical performances against the others even though they don't go out together or at the same time. BUT like the majority of all modern gadgets they can pack up in a blink and be junk without backup from the manufacturer.  I suppose that I'll have contact fitbit about it to see if  they'll help us . If they do, great, if not we won't get another fitbit. I've thought that it was junk from the off .But we'll see. I think  that she'll end up with an Apple watch. At least thAt might be more family compirable to her iphone or the Imac. Im a bit more rustic and use the sun and rub two stick together type.

Got the huawei gt2 watch  as I have a huawei phone. Have to say its a decent watch. Does all the usual running, cycling, steps, swimming, sleep etc and the battery lasts for over a week before it needs charged again. Looks half decent as well compared to some of the others.

Fenix has an expensive price tag on them though , ive a garmin forrunner but wont charge up , not sure what to get next been looking at some of the G shock range

I've used a G-Shock for years. Blazing desert to the snowy mountains. I stumped up a little extra for the solar version and one that corrects the time with the atomic clock. Short of taking it off and seeing whether it'll take a 5.56 to the face the thing is unkillable.

All electrical/mechanical stuff , can and will break down or play up.  I haven't been able to find out online what has caused the display brightness to dim to the point that you cant read the display. This seems to be a common problem with the fitbit.  This afternoon the Mrs did an online text chat with a technician and he went through a load of things which she had already done and he is stated that they will send an e-mail outlining her options. ???  Nothing has been received as yet.  I notice that on the fitbit forum a lot of people have been issued new replacements.  Failing that I don't know if something like this would be covered under house insurance..?

EDIT... The email x2 came through and as it is out of warranty they are offering a 35% discount on a new replacement bought within 30 days of the e-mail .  I'd say that was pretty fair.   The device is working as it should but the display is so small and dim I can't see anything .  Thats the problem with all stuff like this.  Technology moves on so fast that new models replace existing and suddenly the unit that you've got is not supported anymore.!  It's like sat nave with free lifetime updates..  how long is a lifetime.?  An ants lifetime.?  My lifetime.?  No a lifetime is until a new model is available and the old one is superseded. She will have to have a look at what is available and use the 35% discount or to wedge out and get something different. Built-in obsolescence. ?
