I'm guessing mine is muscular because it eventually subsides when I suffer from a flare up. It's just funny how after over a decade of proper graft I never suffered with my back and then just on this particular day it went and has never been the same since. Run up and down mountains carrying weight, Thai boxing, judo, up and down ladders for years etc and then go and pop my back reaching for a brew while coughing at the same time 1

Ken's Deputy 4,459
Mush' nailed it, in that last post. Been there. Done that. I haven't actually read the last half of this thread. Just feel moved to throw in This little beauty: My Eyes are fukking my own back up, even as I type this. Eyes are fukked. Age. Perfectly natural. Only, I'm well over due with my check up / fresh glasses. (This, 'Ooh! Look! We're All Gonna Die!' fukking bollox kicked off Just as I was due my appointment - and was gagging for it!) I've been wearing ever stronger 'Over the counter' glasses. God alone knows what they're doing to me? But, My Shoulders?!?! Fukk Me! I'm in fukking Agony! Shoulders. Neck. Back. All from hunching forward to squint at the fukking screen. Scrunching myself up, as I try to fit my fingers into the tunnel visioned notion of a keyboard I now see. So Much Tension!!! Welsh_red 4,613
Ive done building work basically all my life, all the twisting, stetching, lifting wore my back without me really noticing. Then one day mrs was driving down our drive and a stone about a brick size had fallen on to the drive so i got out to chuck it back to the side of the drive and as i lent down to get it my back just went and i fell down like it been shot . Like others have said it felt like electric in my lower back. Mrs manged to get me up and back into the house but i felt f****d. She sat me into the single seat in the living room, put swamp people on tv for me and left me so she could take my boy to nursery school. After half hour i was busting for a piss so thought " ill take it slow and get myself up" . I used the door for support and ended up hugging the door as my back went again and swinged with it as it closed and fell into the hallway f****d again. I lay on that floor for 2-3 hours waiting for mrs to come back desperate for a piss. I genuinly considered pissing myself there nd then but in a act of pure self control i held it in. Luckily i did because mrs came back with her parents. I was 25/26 at the time, im now 36 and finally starting to get ito a groove of keeping lm top of it. Up until now my back has gone once a year roughly , i sleep on bedroom floor when it happens as it seems to help and try to stay active during the day as sitting around does it no good. Ive started getting up early recently and doing yoga stretches flr half hour before work and it does seem to be helping. I can spring in and out of trenches were digging in work better than before
ands 544
There's a physio from Swansea area, a small girl who said she could sort out sciatica, i didn't think it was fixable but fairplay. I counted down every minute until she got here, she said if people don't get it seen too it never goes away.
sandymere 8,263
Not much to do in an acute phase unless there is a medical/surgical intervention needed. Research suggest that in the great majority of cases keeping mobile is key, when outcomes are compared Physios, Chiros, home mobilisation, pain killers etc all have the same outcomes, basically take some pain killers and keep as mobilise as possible. The only ones with less positive outcomes are those that don't mobilise. Once the acute phase as past she a physio for a review and to get some exercises to try to prevent it happing again, or at least to often. Ps i write as an ex brickie and current nurse so i have a somewhat problematic back.

No word of a lie when I rang the NHS to try and see a physio I had to wait for a phone call back after a fortnight or so, the lady who took the call went through my symptoms and one of the remedies she gave me was to think positive and try to believe you have no pain. Wtf is that all about, she tried explaining that our brain is still programmed to feel the pain in anticipation after the first severe episode. I personally think that's a load of bollocks as my pain is haphazard, some movements that I would swear will have given me a flare up haven't and some minor things have. It tends to be a cumulative event, so at times the tiniest movements are the straw that breaks the donkeys back. I find heavy weight etc no problem but twisting is the trigger. But definitely does help. @Blackmag I've had ALL treatments on my back, including accupuncture and accupressure. Chiroptactor, osteopath etc etc, after a near fatal accident 21 years ago. Best thing, for me, was definitely chiropractor, who 'should' give you a good stretching and flexibility programme to follow, to be performed a couple of times per day. Maybe not available for many people, but I only live a couple of miles from the university of wales, where I had my treatment, and they also have their own 'rehabilitation' gym, and you do a programme of specific strengthening ecercises for a few weeks after your course of chiropractic treatments. Can work out expensive, if you can find a good chiroprator, but certainly better than shoving loads of painkillers and anti inflammatories into your system. Good luck with it Cheers buddy I went to a chiropractor this after noon only to be bent and twisted in positions I wish I would of done 20 years ago I could hear and feel things grinding and cracking she said I will feel stiff for a couple of days she weren't kidding 50 sheets to get battered by a ronader rousey wannabe ho well I hope it pays off 3 1
