Got a Pm from Matt the rat this afternoon asking if i fancied a couple of hours ratting at a poultry farm.well as ide been stuck in all day i jumped at the chance! so he said he would pick me up at 8pm .so huriedly i got changed scoffed my tea and gave the BSA lightning a quick once over.

Time flew by and within what seemed like minutes there was a tap at the door ,it was Matt, after grabbing my coat we were off to the farm just down the road.

When we arrived it was raining fairly hard, but within minutes we were spotting rats allover the place, mat had a very posh dimmer type lamp ,he lit up a nice rat at the back of a dairy unit,is wasnt till i raised my rifle that i realised just how crap my scope was,i couldnt see a thing so i wiped the lenses quickly and took aim again,in the gloom i saw an out of focus rat in the view,i aimed mid side of the rat and squeezed, thwack squeel! one down! next we had a look in one of the poultry units here Matt bagged several with his all singing all dancing precharged rifle. In the unit you could actually hear the rats running around inside the plasterboard walls and in the roof space, sending small drops of dust falling from the ceiling.

The rats soon got the idea that we werent there for the eggs and decided not to show,so back outside we went, the rain was down to a mere drizzle and a good few more rats were bagged culminating in 'Arnold Swartzarat',took matt 3 well placed shots to finish the bugger, this was one big rat measuring in at about 22inches and probably just as big in girth! biggest rat ive ever seen!

Sorry Davy, this is a full on pest control contract, and as such I cant just invite people along for sport as a general rule.

I had to visit last night to do a night inspection, and the farmer specifically asked me to shoot any rats I could. From my point of view, its a few less rats eating bait so all good. I asked fishfish along because he lives on my doorstep, and I'm always grateful for the help.

Nothing personal Davy, I'm sure you understand.

As a point of interest, I re-visited site this morning, and the victim pictured above was half eaten (by other rats).
