Greyman 28,912 Posted January 6, 2021 Report Share Posted January 6, 2021 1 hour ago, Gaz_Lurcherlad said: I have bought a black widow for now to practice with just to get used to it if I made my own do I have to do anything to the wood like varnish or lacquer it and I don’t have the foggiest on how to attach the bands I’m a complete novice to this please don’t think I’m an idiot lol Normally cut the forks now as the wood is dry until the sap starts rising in March, jan feb best months for cutting forks, they are much less likely to split as they dry, if you do see a nice fork in summer you can force dry it with a couple of minutes in a microwave, but if you just get a good box full now they will last you until next spring, if you can’t get along with the tuck and wrap you can just put a split in the fork and slide the band in doubled back on itself, use a hacksaw for the slot as it has a much slimmer blade and finally just get a pot of Danish oil from any builders merchant diy store and give your fork a couple of coats with a sponge or rag and at the end of all that it’s a free stick so if you get it wrong nothing lost Quote Link to post Share on other sites
