The pup has never had opportunity. I’d say if foxes were my thing I wouldn’t get a Galgo as there are better bred dogs for the job. Galgos are more edible specialist that have a good mix of speed and stamina, good feet and heat resistance and breed true to type so have very little litter wastage. Yeah I getcha just wondering as most Greys I’ve seen have been absolute demons on fox I definitely think out of all the pure breeds of running dog Greyhounds are the best fox dogs 4 Quote Link to post

Not to want an argument but there is very little litter wastage because they let them grow, run them (sometimes into the ground) and then cull the poor fuuckers in the most horrific ways! Takes a special sort of person to put a cord around a dogs neck, raise it up onto it's back claws and watch them hang. They call it the typewriter because of the noise the claws make while the dog tries to get balance to prevent being throttled. Fuucking disgusting!!! There's cruel feckers all over, I've seen a few pics but they are the same pics banded about same as with the anti racing lot over here. They do cull hard but that's a reality of getting the best and why many end up in pet homes rescues or knocked on the head etc as with greyhounds over here, don't believe all the propaganda. 6,000 greyhounds killed in Ireland each year WWW.IRISHCENTRAL.COM In Ireland greyhounds aren't even classified as dogs back to galgos, the chap i get mine from takes dogs down to the local rescue every year, he keeps the best to breed for the future but certainly looks on them as disposable. The litter my youngster came from were culled at birth, a runt, then at around 14 weeks he sold/knocked on the head a few that he felt didn't show the drive to chase a rag, then at six months he sold a couple he didn't feel had the makings of champions till these was just 4 left. I took one at 7 months and he ran 3 on, now he just has the one left of the litter at 14 months to compete in the coming season. He breeds a few litters each year so always has a few youngsters coming through and has a fair success in competition. The best of these will be used to breed and the rest end up a the shelter. Personally I think they are over the top in culling but then again think that we are not hard enough and breed to many unproven animals. edit to add, just checked he still has two of the litter. The Spanish are cruel fuckers, ; every season they get rid of the culls, but some owners just hang them, drown them or simply throw them out on the street. Why not just shoot them ? Ive said this before, and had some stick from some people, but loading a donkey until it collapses, just for fun, or throwing a goat out of a tower in a religious ceremony, or torturing a bull until it's so weakened and maddened by pain that a ponce in a fancy suit can kill it isn't my idea of sport. I like the Spanish coursing, and wish we still had it, but treat the dogs with the respect they deserve. Cheers. 10 2 Quote Link to post

mush 204
Is there a difference between Spanish and Portuguese galgoes. Are they registered with a coursing club? Quote Link to post

No difference, traditionally there were different types depending on the parts of the country and terrain but the centralised coursing has mostly evened them out, shame really. They have a federation. https://www.fedegalgos.com/ Edited July 31, 2021 by sandymere 1 Quote Link to post

I agree with you totally mate ,you got to show all living things respect and if something got to be pts do it the right way and not strung up or thrown in a well . A good friend lived in Spain for yrs and he was in a bar and was told about a litter of pointer pups being buried alive so he drove out to the area and found them ,he dug them out and only one was alive so he rushed it to vet and had him treated ,the dog always looked like it had ad a strock as his face lop sidded but he lived until 16 yr and had a great life with me pal and was a lovely gentle dog . .People who do these kind of things need culling themselves in my opinion 6 Quote Link to post

Aye that's bonney... I'd be terrified everytime I slipped it though lol, they are so slight. There's a new chocolate coloured one turned up in my barrio, lovely, handsome thing but like yours, it's really slight. When I think of the knocks this nobhead has had, I can't see a galgo getting back up after the same. Edited October 6, 2021 by mushroom Quote Link to post
