I'm a snooker aficionado, and I know O'Sullivans demeanour and antics can be off putting for some, but I'd rather watch him than any of the other players. He's a flawed genius, but most geniuses

Yeah no good frying our brains over such trivial matters.  Snooker is a nice relaxing watch, no dramas.

The snooker room had an almost religious aura in the working men's clubs. No lowly women allowed. Smoking over the table or resting a glass on the  table could lead to being banned from the club. You

No point at all if you ask me, snooker isn't really meant to be fireworks.

He's just having one of his regular meltdowns, he was at it the other week as well with Mark Allen.

He's a flawed genius, but most geniuses are !

I was watching Trump and Robertson playing in the UK final the other night and literally fell asleep during the game ! Two of the best technical players ever, but I'd put O'Sullivan as the best player ever, the most exciting, and the most unpredictable.

Hes by far the biggest draw in snooker, that's how he gets away with so much. The way he went on with Allen was way wrong, and any other player would have been punished by the authorities, but, as they say, " he puts bums on seats " !

Cheers.

He is absolutely spot on, i watched snooker religiously as a kid and it was all characters.

Some of thems off table antics were as famous as what they did when they played.

Alex Higgins, Jimmy White, Kirk Stevens, Bill Woberniek, Dennis Taylor and yes, even Steve Davis......these people were household names.

Couldnt name any other than Ronnie now.

That final the other night had me beat. Half way through that final frame I just thought “I don’t f***ing care who wins this, enough!” & went to bed. I still don’t know who won it....?

I love watching O'Sullivan and hes about the only snooker player I've been able sit and watch properly for about 20 years but he's not a "character" or anything as far as I can see he's just a bit of a nob really who says occasional odd things that aside he's as bland as Steve Davies.

Spot on....being an unpredictable little attention seeker doesnt make you a " character "......Davies was known as Mr Interesting back years ago but had much more about him than O Sullivan does Davies was quite a funny chap......i always judge sportsmen by what other sportsmen in their own sport think of them, and O Sullivan is not well liked at all...and thats not just down to his ability.....he's the greatest snooker player in history but just a fairly unpleasant chap with too much to say about his fellow competitors in my opinion.

I always really look forward to watching the man play, but must admit to having a nagging doubt about the man himself. You’ve just confirmed some of the things I thought....

...That said, I wonder if being likeable & perhaps being more personable to his fellow players would of put him at a disadvantage? I think I’m right in saying that Hendry claimed that once he relaxed a bit more around the other players & forged a close friendship with  Mark Williams it weakened his game somewhat?

I think he,s too selfish to think like that mate he's just not a very affable type of person ....i dont think he is even all that competitive as a sportsman in terms of winning and losing he,s more like an artist who wants to draw the perfect picture and doesnt much care if your picture is better or worse just as long as his picture is perfect in his own mind.....he lives near me so speak to folk who certainly know him better than i do but thats the impression i get.

I’d never really thought about it like that, but that makes a lot of sense. I know it’s an over used description, but these ‘genius’ types do seem to have that in common......yes they will produce the ‘magic’, but on their terms as it were. If that makes sense? ?
