pesky1972 5,320
Found this when clearing out my old fella’s house after he died a few years back. Don’t remember him playing it, so don’t know if it’s knackered or not. Always wondered if I could string it and knock any sort of a tune out of it. First step is to find out what it is. Is it a mandolin, a mandolin-banjo, banjo-mandolin, a banjolin?

Greyman 28,715
Sounds like it could be a bandolin, very rare first cross banjo mandarin, I’d definitely keep it,

Chid 6,557
It's a banjolin It's not a banjo it's got to many strings
Jonjon79 13,358
It does look like a mandolin but, the 8 string this is odd - I thought they were usually 5 or 6 string? They do make a nice sound - it might be worth having a crack at learning to play it if you're up for it

pesky1972 5,320
Thanks for replies. I think it’s all there, so I’ve ordered a set of mandolin strings, I’ll see if I can string it and get a sound out of it. That might tell me tell me what, if anything, is wrong with it. Mister Gain 1,764
Yep, Banjolin. Just seen a Youtube clip of a bloke who borrowed one. He said it sounded a lot better when he removed 4 of the strings though.
