Could be grease in the barrel David, they use it to stop corrosion while new guns are in storage. Might be worth a pull through first, before you take it anywhere?

he said for what I’ll be using it for it won’t need one , more for the target boys apparently, he’s going to have a play set it up right a use a variety of pellets to see what’s best 

can’t grumble at that , + clean all the grease out of it which he says could be the problem

Only just got mine well impressed, never had a rifle this quiet thought there was something wrong with it,deadly accurate going to make great rat gun.
