Good luck mate ?

Slinky2 is no more.

3:40 a.m. he arrived and in a few seconds presented the shot. As always a complimentary second shot  is always given by me when rimfires are used if possible.

I went bed at 9 for some sleep. Got up and in position at 1:30 wrapped up and flask in hand. It was a still and a well illuminated night. The camera said 3:20 was the time of the last visit but he came 20 minute later.  I was nearly about to give up when the little security light came on and there he was tugging at the bait.

What I never realised was its war wound ! The photos I have of it show a back foot missing but I never noticed until  last night.

So slinky2 could be called Stumpy1!

I wonder what had happened. Maybe it was a 204 ruger or the prairie dog round 22-250!

Any way job done. Cleaned up by a rimfire, cunning and determination.

I doubt it was a wounding. That would have to be a really bad shot to aim for the chest and hit it in the knee on it's back leg! I rather suspect it got trapped in something and chewed it's leg off given it's not a clean wound. It may have got itself hung up on a barbed wire fence or similar at some point in it's life.

Bad shots do indeed happen. Live targets move too.

The other leg displayed some cuts healing also.

Knew you would get him , his injury obviously wasnt affecting him , looks a chunky fella ?

He has dined on finest chicken for about a month now.

Not frightened by security lighting but lamps yes! That's telling us something....probably dropped from town and since shot at via a lamp!

Not saying they don't but it would be a very bad shot to be the length of a fox out. The fact there are cuts on the other leg suggest it got hung up to me. Who knows though. At least this way the farm is safe and it can RIP.

Not hard to do at all if you're shooting it head on.

Foxes are great survivors of injury .Out of those Ive had this year .12 were hobbling on three legs and two had limbs missing .One a front leg .Strange to see it moving but move it did and was otherwise fit and healthy .I’d say rta is the common cause of injury followed by snares then rifles .Landowner text today to say a goose went last night at his place ,I big old gander apparently .Signs of a struggle in a field nearby .The geese are out 24/7 as most geese are Ive found .If weathers good tonight I’m on it .Takes a very bold fox to tackle a gander IME .

Was going to the feral problem but priority is the goose killer cos he will be back .

Mower, snare, RTA, fights,  firearms contact all sorts of incidents. It ain't easy being a Charlie.  The three wheelers that I  have encountered have all been in good condition and quite fat. Perhaps the injury has slowed charlie up and they don't burn the meat off.2? Well persevered.
