Sausagedog 7,381
The farm manager has been feeding this very elusive fox up at the chicken units and finally he got it feeding in a safe place so tonight the bait was tied and my car positioned for a shot. First though let me tell you about next doors dog! It's a standard poodle dog and my little bitch has taken a shine to him! So much so that she keeps asking me to let her out but really she just wants to check if he is there at the fence. Well this morning at 5:15 she said she wanted to go out. I got up and went down stairs to let her out but the outside security light came on as I got down the stairs so I peered out the window to see a smashing smart vixen on the garden sniffing about. I got the camera but as soon as its ir beam hit it it was gone! Its been a nightmare trying to track this one. I can not work out where she comes from. Anyway, there I was patiently waiting. I had the white concrete footings of the shed to see the silhouette against and sure enough at 9:45 there was a shape present! Well I couldn't see my blasted barrels could I so I reached for the torch. I got ready for a speedy shot, torch on and...gone! In a flash it was gone! This is one heck of a smart fox. Lamp and ir shy just for starters. But maybe not frightened of security lights of which there is some up at the unit! That's my next move I think! I'll test it with my dog, adjust if needed. Build some kind of back stop and start baiting from there. It was still good to get some contact. I was only 20yds away. Next time.....I'll get the little cow. I always had the most luck with green, I heard years ago animals can't see green spectrum? I could have made that up though just to justify a purchase Edited November 28, 2020 by Gav 3 Quote Link to post

Sausagedog 7,381
Well I'm still playing with her. She comes to bait around 10:30 but the security light isn't triggered by it. I have a battery operated small security light I'm going to fix. In one photo its checking the trail cameras ir illuminators! So I fear nv might not work. Meet slinky 2! 1 Quote Link to post
David.evans 5,323
It will work if she’s looking at the ir , you’ve will have time to pull the trigger , and a lot further away than the t cam good luck sausage 1 Quote Link to post

Sausagedog 7,381
It's quite tricky. Where I can only park and wait means I'm shooting towards the house! Sounds awful I know but it's not that bad IF the fox steps into THE zone where upon there is a barricaded back stop! 1 Quote Link to post
Meece 1,958
It's random, BUT..... ONE of my pair's of hearing aids can detect IR camera illuminators. Yep I can detect these invisible lights at some distance. I hear a sort of buzzing sound that is like using a radio detection loop. By turning my head I can locate the direction of the light. ..... is it possible that Charlie hears the same buzzing from IR lights. The loss of hearing results from many years of noisy engines and gun fire without ear protection. Food for thought.? if you've had a bullet zip past a time or two when these lights come on you'd soon sod off. I wonder if a noise distraction might camouflage the sound.? Do you play the banjo. by any chance? Edited December 7, 2020 by Meece 1 Quote Link to post
