I agree to a point mate, but original Ronaldo was something else, he really was the perfect centre forward, there was simply nothing he couldn't do...and his goal scoring record in the top league, Spain snd Italy, is staggering... even after horrific injuries he kept coming back and smashing records... Its so tough to call best ever, pretty much impossible, as we don't look at defenders or goal keepers...but id pick a fit Ronaldo as pretty damn close to best ever...lol

Completely irrelevant to this conversation really mate but it tends to be that the best players play for the best teams, they have to earn their place amongst other players who are the best in the world. The mark of a great player is that they can do it time and time again in the very best teams the world has to offer......they don’t just do it once, they do it 4,5,6 times. Thats a great player imho

Thats a great player imho He did something better than that though. He took a struggling team in arguably the toughest league in the world at that time and made them champions for the first time in the clubs history. To top that off they also won the UEFA with Napoli, an achievement never seen before or after. He also took an average Argentina side and made them champions of the word, what other players have done that? Edited November 29, 2020 by Greb147

pesky1972 5,526
The debate about the GOAT will never be settled, or ever end. And it’s impossible to compare eras. No doubt that Maradona was a great player, but tragic to me that he never fulfilled his potential. His generation weren’t looked after the way players are nowadays, as the maybe weren’t seen as the financial assets they are now. Never mind the sports science, nutrition etc., imagine if he’d even been managed and looked after the way Messi will have. Or the likes of George Best given the same hospitality and mentoring as the likes of CR7 would have arriving in Manchester. The game was very different then too, especially in the latin leagues he played in, some right dirty b*****ds there, probably worse than you’d have seen in the old div.1. To me he belongs in a select group of players who got me on the edge of my seat when he got on the ball, and had a grace and balance I don’t think I’ve seen matched. For what it’s worth, Messi is my GOAT..., but I’ll always wonder what Diego could have been if he’d been playing in today’s game.
THE STIFFMEISTER 16,492
"The way he combined powerhouse athleticism with a poetic touch made for an awesome sight. In the 1990s, in his physical pomp, in his free-flowing prime, there was nothing remotely like him. By the time the 1998 World Cup came along his reputation had extended to the point of fully formed marvel. A happening." one description of ronaldo .

He shouldn't have played, but they obviously thought a half f****d Ronaldo was better than no Ronaldo...
WILF 48,384
He had to pack up because of a thyroid condition, it first got diagnosed in the medical for Real Madrid or maybe it was as late as Milan. His knee healed up, but he took such a kicking that it was bound to have had an effect. Funny, I’m chatting about Ronaldo and sat watching Dundalk v Athlone Town.....it’s 6-0 at half time to Dundalk ! Athlone are managed by the local FAI bloke, it’s f***ing terrible.....I have genuinely seen better Sunday football !
