Shilton always been moaning about the handball , sure hed celebrate with everyone else if rashford took a dive in last min of a world cup semi final

The thing is though we are in an era now where cheating in the game is accepted, encouraged even.....the reason we hated Maradona so much back then was because the South American/Spanish cheating environment hadnt found its way here yet and we just couldnt believe he had the audacity to do what he did and celebrate it.....it took another 20 odd years for that snidey horrible type of gamesmanship to become the norm in our game.

I just like the childlike style of that video. Granted its a small snapshot of the man but its how i imagine my 10 year old would be if he transported into a adult body and was class at football . I a

But by most as a genius, and one of the most gifted players to play the game. RIP Diego ??

A rare talent & legend.....Early death is inevitable with that level of self abuse

Fair enough , never really thought of it in that way from a older persone perspective

But on a slightly similar,  slightly different note . People of all ages will forgo cheating from their own team/nation if it meant a trophy . Owen dived Vs argentina im 98(i think it was 98) and its never mentioned  . Had they gone on to win the world cup i wonder if anybody would remember

None of that takes away from his god given talent, just check his other goal in that same game to see what you're dealing with there. ?

The start of the Premier League and the introduction of players from around the world was the start of those types of gamesmanship, people talk about Maradona's second goal in that game as though it was a wonder goal but it was the same as his first nobody dared go near him,it had been well documented throughout the tournament that he had been the most fouled player, people say he " beat " all the English defenders watch the goal again ( both his goals ) nobody even put a foot out he just ghosted past everybody unchallenged.... us English didnt understand gamesmanship back then the Owen dive 12 years later you refer to is a good example of English players starting to understand it, wasnt he told how to dive from the oddball looking referee, the Italian bloke i forget his name now.

We know an Argentinian lad now & the Mrs text him today to see his reaction. He said he was in numb shock & that when he was kid he used to think about what life would be like if Maradona died!

I think it’s safe to say the adulation for him in Argentina is another level to anything we might of experienced
