I remember a show several years ago when a big black bullx was awarded best in show, the judge did not like bull bred lurchers but awarded the top ribbon to the top dog on the day,Churchy owned the dog and I was the judge, the terrier judge on the day was a big mate of ians and he drove me back to Yorkshire,i remember a show, later on at Selby, when ian was robbed of the best terrier because of favouritism and I remember another show at Wireside fisheries,Lancaster, when Ian took a Bellman and flint set up for best working terrier in show.Ive talked to the lad,ive seen his dogs and know a few of his mates,if I wanted an honest working Lakeland id not look to Ian for it,if that puts me at odds with the lads that know him far better,so be it.How much are his litters now?. I’ve at disagreements when I’ve judged as I pick the dog not the person I always have and always will,I’ve said if the dog isn’t right on the day I don’t care who you are and couldn’t give a monkeys if you fall out with me over it,like I said you sound a sensible man but some of the things you say I do disagree with.Look I’m not one for slating people I’ve even been out with supposed to big great dogs (lurcher sand terriers) and most have been average. It’s like my cars my mint is different to your mint as I do have high standards and always will.I like you did put the time into my bedlingtons and most of my digging partners called them poodles, until they seen and put there terriers to shame. So I know we’re ya coming from but I’ve never arsed liked in my life and never will a spade is a spade with me as for Ian he is a genuine lad and will tell you which of his dogs are good and which aren’t and my mate a Cumbria is out digging all the time but like I said there is nothing wrong having a smart showy Lakeland as long as it’s doing the work to.But as for money that doesn’t bother me either as the way I look at it if you like the dog and happy with the price that’s up to you and no body else. 1 Quote Link to post

We have a little in common, when I like a grafter id pay top dollar for the chance to own it,ive seldom paid for a worker,at times needs must and more importantly ive never sold a worker.I like Ian,ive met him I liked him,i know some of his mates far better,id not own anything he breeds.Ill guarantee some of what he owns will be working reliable, the majority are show reliable,id not source an expensive? Lakey from such a kennel.Lakeys now are nearly fecked as grafters and if you head to far above Skipton,or stroll into Halifax you will be hard pressed to source a grafter.Grafters cost nowt, the vast majority of Lakey breeders put massive dollar on every litter. When folk ask where is the best place to source a working lakey ill state with a fact it will be bred with no monetary value, ill also state that its difficult to get into the chain of gifted. 1 Quote Link to post

There is only a few left that will gift you pups from proven stuff these days I will of probably spoke to you in the past from judging the shows as I know faces more than names,I like talking to different folk but as you know you shape klick on to the bullshitters which I laugh at then walk away. The lads I bother with are genuine and we’re I live now I don’t bother with them as you can see they are village idiots,I’ve known Neil stoddard for years to.I remember a few years ago when Neil came up to me and my wife at the great Yorkshire show and ask were my borders were,I replied at home why and he said the judge loves your borders.I said it’s a bit of bad luck then as I only wanted cheap tickets to get into the show as I got sick of dragging the dogs about and getting rosettes as it’s nice just to have a bit crack and walk around without the dogs. 1 Quote Link to post
