I want to purchase a pair of boots for the colder weather, I do a lot of walking, and some trekking about the hillsides and trails. I do not want "winter boots" but rather boots that would be suitable for a cold day, but would work with layers of socks rather than thick heavy boots. Several people have told me Meindl is an excellent brand, and that is great, but what kind ? Hiking ? Walking ? Do they make them that they would serve the purpose mentioned above ? Any specifics to look for in a boot for this purpose ?

Thank you in advance,

Lynn

Walking boots will cover most situations, go into your local outdoors shop and find a pair that suit you then buy the same pair on line to save a few quid.

Expect to pay from about £60 for something decent. HTH

Cheers, D.

When I replace then I’ll look for another well made, lightweight boot with a decent sole (Vibram usually a safe bet). Try a few pairs on before you buy, and wear the socks you’ll be walking in to make sure they fit right. Should be plenty deals about once the shops are allowed to open up again.

You beat me to the post.  I was going to look at boots in general.  A lot of supposed walking boots are rubbish because they are fashion boots and not walking boots or working boots.  I've never come across the  makes of boots mentioned in any footwear shop.  A lot of boots now are only stocked with steel toe caps and steel in steps ,,,,,  industrial style because of health and safety regs.  This makes the boots stiff and rigid like a pair of divers boots. At the mo I've got two pairs of bòots. A pair of Hoggs and a pair of Bucklers boots.  Both are leather, both are pretty good.  The Bucklers have a rubber over toe cover which is good when walking through wet grass.  The wet doesn't seem to come past the rubber bit.  The price is about 60 to 70 in both càses.  I have had to Hoggs about ten years and the treads are a bit low now, hundreds of miles.  The leather is beginning to crack on both pairs at the toe line flex point.  The Mrs has a cheapo pair that leak at the same point  but she likes them because they are so light and comfortable..on wet days she puts a plastic bag over her socks to stop getting wet foot. I told her to just get some new ones but she hasn't.

I rate their walking boots had a pair for a few year now still going strong . I used to buy the Zamberlan walking boots and would be lucky to get 12 month out of them.

Like everything some people love a product and others hate a product.  every manufacturer would say that their product is the best.  If the military use a make, is that boot or whatever made up to a military spec and totally different to the product available to Joe Bloggs.  A lot of manufactures might say that the product has not been used for the purpose that it was designed to do. Price doesn't always relate to how good a product is in use.

Sorry gentlemen to bother you, but I have come to my wits end. My neighbour across the way lets her dog roam as it please when it comes to shitting and urination, she is too lazy to actually take the dog out herself. He seems to have taken to my property and a certain area just under my bedroom window. I do not want to hurt the dog for the sake of her ignorance, but I do very much need to stop him from doing it any longer. The grass and  the shrubs are dying and turning brown and the flowers are just rank with smell that floats up through my bedroom window.
He is a VERY OVERWEIGHT beagle and leaves behind some damn good deposits.
I am wondering short of doing something stupid, what can I do to deter the dog from that area or any patches of garden I have? I plan to go to the council about the problem, and lay some of it on the town manager who is an acquaintance of mine, but in the meantime, any tricks out there to make my flowers and bushes unsavoury.
      Thank you in advance,
      Lynn

Hi guys, just wondering if any of you keep finches. I have a son with autism and other than adoring my ferrets, he has developed a real fascination with small birds, I would really like to keep this interest going with him as he has very few things that he likes and its a great way to get him into the routine of caring for animals. I have a decent sized back garden and a 8ft x 10ft shed that I was thinking about making an outside aviary and attaching it to my shed and cutting out a few holes and having a small inside area.
It would be great to see if any of you guys have something like this.

      Cheers.
      Gavin
