I don’t know about that mate .

it’s a totally different thing to an English chant . These aren’t Saturday songs , they are part of your family , your friends , these are songs that are played at home in your childhood . It’s a far bigger thing  than the colour of shirt you pull on .

I've seen 2 lads stand up and sing “the roll of honour” on their jack jones in front of 50 rangers fans in an afghan fob.

The tribal mentality Wilf talks about wouldnt allow 2 West Ham lads to stand in front of 50 Millwall lads singing songs about the old Dockers in this area from years gone by but they might get away with Bubbles....( well maybe not thinking about it ) ?.......point being footie is footie and religion/politics is something completely different i learned that on a winters night at Lansdowne Rd 25 odd years ago ?

I dont know maybe im being too cynical....maybe im just becoming too intolerant of bullshitters the older i get !

I don’t know mate, I think there’s lots of things people like and dislike or feel a bit of connection to, I dont think they require everyone to suddenly turn into Stevie McKeag.

Some take things further than others, that’s always been the case mate in every facet of life ?

I’m the opposite mate, I always liked that nasty tribe mentality harping back to history........even if it is only once a week on a Saturday

That is not unlike real life in Scotland. When I first moved up here I got invited to  New year party. I was the only catholic( ex catholic) at a party. Things became  very very ugly.

Celtic v Rangers games are a really tense experience. Adrenalin ,hairs on your neck standing up, eyes bulging, testosterone levels at bursting point. f****n brilliant. A nd I'm 71. Hate the catholic Church now but something deep still makes me a Celtic man.

What i meant mate was the whole safety in numbers football thing is so easy to fall into strong stances that you dont actually have.....that night at Lansdowne Rd being the perfect example i was genuinely there for a game of footie but then upon looking around and recognising faces from a very different area of life at that time your loyalties start to change and end up embroiled in shit you dont understand or even care about.... i was as guilty as anyone else but its something that happens a lot at the footie, hence to me footie banter is best kept at footie banter.

Theres never any justification for shit like that mate, was touch and go for my mate for a while he only just pulled through, not even a rival fan just a guy with a blue football top on

I f****n detest people like that.....likeminded boys having a tear up at the footie is no problem at all.....kicking the life out of somebody because they follow a different football team reeks of mental retardation and cowardice !
