Spot on, I work for a multi million pound company and ours are terrible. Pretend they're everyones mate but pull em into disciplinary meetings as fast as they can. Late in, first out and always take 20 min breaks instead of 15 but your a min late and they want it made back. Then you get like today; how do you deal with the boredom of working from home .... Do my job! Oh no, I'll just be bored....c**t!

I'll never forget my best disciplinary ?

She tried pulling me apart for about 30mins and after getting nowhere finally asked "what do you think your colleagues think of you" ?

I replied "I couldn't give a fuuck, I'm here to do my job, not make friends or swan about the shop with a laptop" ??? Director had me in after that and basically spent the entire time shaking his head and laughing about it with me... funnily enough, I was offered a middle management position and pay rise not long after. I declined and still got the pay rise ?

The best middle managers dont see themselves as managers but leaders and coaches. First on the field and last off ;)

I don't give a f**k what anyone says, there is very few people that get anything without putting the graft in.... proper people graft, whether you have a uni degree or a degree in life..... fair play to you mate, your lad will thank you for instilling that work ethic into him...

Middle management is the one bunch who think grafting is below them...last in the door and first out in the main....c**ts!!

I don’t think that’s true for all middle management mate, there are as many terrible directors and managers as there are workers.

I think good people will always be good people, if you allow them to play to their strengths, identify their weaknesses, make a note of their character and match them with tasks accordingly.

Make them feel valued, don’t forget to say “great job” and “Thank you”, get them invested mentally in what you are doing.....that’s our job as leaders of whatever project we are doing.

You have to project the confidence of knowledge and be the unflappable rock when something is going a bit boss eyed (even though you may be thinking “f**k! How am I getting out of this !!” Lol )

Build up the good lads and be ruthless with the wankers, one bad apple will bring the whole gang down.
Show the good lads that you are ruthless with wankers and decent with lads that are decent with you.

I always think it’s like being the conductor of an orchestra, we control the tempo, the mood and the finished piece.

The downside with good people is that by virtue of their nature they will want to keep spreading their wings and they are hard to keep hold of, you want them to do well and feel pleased for them but they often means you loose them.

That's exactly the same as me mate; everyone in our place straight away adds you on fb and unless it's someone I'd see outside of work why the f**k would I accept them.

I got a disciplinary for eating a cake decoration once ?

Nope! LinkedIn is for work. With me I got known as the guy who'd break his back to help you but won't suffer fools or uptheirownarses types. It got to the point where the new managers would be sent over to me with stupid tasks like going over objection handling lol These dicks had zero experience and I had zero patience ? You'd see the director peeping round the corner, laughing his shit off as I'm telling some cock to keep walking ?

The one thing I don’t believe in is that remuneration equates with quality......pay should reflect quality not the other way round.

The amount of lads who have ever said to me “well I didn’t do much because they didn’t pay me very much”......no, you didn’t do much because you are a wanker ! Lol

Nobody is a total loss at £50 and a legend at £100......don’t work like that.

This going to sound totally mental but if I ever got a new bloke and we were clearing a place I’d get them to sweep the floor !......you can learn bundles about people from just getting them to sweep the floor imho

The quality of that simple, boring, stupid task will tell you very quickly all you need to know about someone.

Sounds rediculous really but it’s true

Aye but the problem was I spent years sweeping the floor and the directors would send these clowns over to try and teach me how to do it, all for shits and giggles ?

To be honest I sound like a terrible person but I just cannot suffer fools. I would help, train and coach anyone who puts in the effort.

E.g I would help new sales people in report/quote writing. I'd lend them one of mine, bounce ideas with them and offer to go through their final draft before submitting it.

Would always piss me off that mostly Brits would come back to me with simple grammar errors, spelling mistakes, extra spaces etc. Most of which are automatically pointed out by Word or the like and the non native English speakers would come back with all that dealt with already and ready to go through the main point... the content ?‍♂️

Basically if they can't be arsed to put in the effort then why should I waste my time.

Unfortunately mate times change and it’s very hard to find quality people with a bit of a work ethic today imho.

Its all this “everyone is entitled to a great job and £25000 a year from the get go” that has murdered things imho.....on one hand it’s nice that kids have choices rather than my generation who just wanted to get out and take whatever was in offer but in the other hand it’s done nothing for the quality within the pool of labour.

We have definitely been “bred down” as a group of people, and before anyone groans that’s not a racial thing it’s a cultural thing imho

In opening up a university education for all rather than just those who put in the graft we have not raised the standard of your working class bloke, we have lowered the standard of the university people and created this weird twilight zone of people who ain’t good enough to be really top class but who have too high aspirations to be the hod carrier who works his way up to having his own team of brickies.....they are in effect almost useless just floating about and they don’t really fit anywhere.

Don't get me started on the education system ? I constantly tell my eldest to do more than her teachers ask. Never do just enough, go the extra mile. Having that mentality will stand you out from the crowd when you hit the real world ;)

It's not just the Brits with this high opinion mentality. My Austrian ex had a degree in landscaping and thought she was smarter than Einstein and worth more than a CEO ?‍♂️ Swiss lad I know finished his degree in physiotherapy and walked straight into a job for 65K a year in Zurich.

As I always tell my kids, it’s easy to be ordinary, that takes no effort whatsoever.

What I mean by that is, and I’m always clear about this with them too, it don’t matter if you are the street sweeper or a Neuro Surgeon do what you do well because it all has value and just striving to not be a wanker will get you places.

Right chaps to have a house with £400000 £40k  motor and two holidays a year how much would you say you would have to earn? I read something somewhere and it's made me wonder ever since!

About the same as a drug dealer....

Not as much as you think!

Depends on how much you tighten the belt and save up for your deposit beforehand;)
