Ive got a lot of perm, about 6000 acres or so of it, is on keepered shoots. Its riddled with game, and the keepers are sound. Regularly get offered digging, lamping, ferreting and shooting. I dont even really go beating for them or anything. I'm just not a knob head to them, and do the job they require with no fuss. They just arent fussed if I use a gun or a dog, and in fact appreciate the place dogs have in pest control and game management. Even taken runners on shoot days and had keepers stand me and mates in good spots and then work hard to get us some good runs etc. Just like absolutely everything in life, there is good and bad in both. A lot of keepers are knob heads, and far far more lads with lurchers are the same. Just treat folk as you find them. Whats interesting to me is the same keepers who like to see a good dog run, also, funnily enough, dont really like folk coming on and smashing the place to bits and causing a nuisance. Thats just life.

Cant speak for the north but here in the south the best estates are those that are well looked after. I know of one place the shooting stopped a few years ago and up until this season the place next door was still keepered. Apart from deer when you walked from one bit of ground to the next it was like a light switch for rabbits hares and strangely foxes. I wouldnt like to see the end of shooting i think it does alot for any wildlife down here and ive got to the point on alot of places if your not causing aggro and your half sensible they dont really care.i think a danger down here for alot of stuff is keepers helpers with thermal and nitesites tbh.

I think what folk forget . . . . is if you have ground that anyone can go on, and everyone does. . . . . .  how much game do you see? Everyone knows the type of spot, lamped to death. . . . 

On a side note, go round when its snows or weather is bleak, and look just how many small birds and other animal take advantage of all of the feed . . . . . 

Oh and the game covers and crops. . . . . . . what about those?

Im genuinley interested to know do you not get that feeling buzz is probably the wrong word for it but alot of the enjoyment i get out of hunting is going somewhere not needing perm or pins sent of this spot or that and going and having a good look around and seeing whats what ? I think if i had the best perm in the world i think id still wonder elsewhere its nice to have that feeling of unkown. i also think if your running alot of permission your sometimes not pushing your dogs in the same way as a man that doesnt allways go on perm
