Meece 1,958
I must have spent several hours on the phone today waiting to get through to the doctors surgery to book a blood test and speak to someone at the council about a community charge for Mother in laws empty house. The numpties recon that there's student living there.??? the place is empty and in the process of being sold. perhaps we missed a trick and should have filled the place up with illegal immigrants paid for by the government. Everything is being blamed on covid. or Brexit

Born Hunter 17,820
Well my experience with the NHS has been better than ever. Online system got me a phone call off the GP within an hour. Way more convenient to have a phone call than face to face. From there within two weeks I was seeing a specialist and within a month MRI.
Born Hunter 17,820
And I’ve been making tons of phone calls recently to different companies, the process takes a little longer which is understandable given many are working from home but the only ones that have been really pissing me off with stupid length waiting lists are the bank. How can a Quack diagnose over the phone ffs . Its just another way and excuse to run down services . Same way they diagnose f2f. Ask questions and gather evidence to form a conclusion. It’s limited but far from hopeless. Many GP appointments don’t need F2F but conservative attitudes keep systems stuck in the past. Covid has simply forced it. I hope it stays an option. The specialist was F2F, just GP that wasn’t.
Accip74 7,112
Most of time I will skip a GP here & contact a specialist direct. In the height of lockdown I called a place on a Friday afternoon in Waterloo, had a scan the next morning, returned on Monday for another & told I had two small hernias that morning. It did cost €200, but you claim 80% back. I’ve never had to wait more than a few days for a specialist appointment.

To me that’s all GPs are for, to direct you to someone who knows what they’re talking about and to dish out drugs that actually work. I wish it was as simple as you guys have it.

I wouldn’t say have I’ve had really bad experiences with GP’s, but it took me a while to realise how limited they actually are & how often they are just guessing! Best avoided if at all possible.

Honestly I’ve just looked at exact dates. I contacted gp on 22nd Sep, was consulted within an hour (they phoned me, no waiting on phone in a que) and I have an mri booked for the 24th Oct! I also saw the specialist at hospital last week. A lot of folks would have been waiting that long just to see their gp before covid! This is all obviously after the NHS stopped panicking about the pandemic and are getting on with regular healthcare again. Im not making any political point, simply relaying my experience. Folks can do what they want with it.
