Over the years I've been toying with getting my bike licence but I'm of the thought that if you haven't grown up on them you will never be as able as someone who has. 

My old man would never let me have a crosser or anything as he had a bad fall when he was in his 20's.

It all depends on who is riding the bike really.at the end of the day your life is in there hands.thats the reality.you often hear people saying whilst looking at a super bike " I would kill myself on that" my response is always the same don't talk shit no man jumps on a bike and keeps the throttle wide open and rides into a wall.unless they are suicidal of course.

You don't have to grow up on bikes to become a decent rider really.its a very enjoyable hobby.and don't forget.

You don't like the lad and that's fair enough, I don't like everything about him either.

He did a good bit of side car as well, did quiet well in a world championship as I remember although I can’t remember what position

It's not just about that though is it, you hit a drain cover and it could throw you off in to oncoming traffic, a car pulls out on you at speed and chances are you're dead, etc, etc. 

I would love to feel the acceleration on one again, I've been on the back of a Honda Blackbird twenty odd years ago and that's about it.

Funny you should say that, was yapping to one of my brothers best mates a few months back, he's Sri Lankan descent (I think), he said at school he was racially abused twice... said it was nothing... then said the ginger kid in his class was picked on every day, he felt sorry for him..

He doesn't see feel hard done by at all, just cracks on with life, and thinks this BLM stuff is shit... I've got a lot of time for him, real nice fella....

14 or 15 years ago I was at Gatwick airport doing a job and my phone rang.

The person on the other end said “Hello is that Mr Xxxx?” So I said “Yeah, who’s this !”

”It’s Essex Police, do you know a Mr McDonald” 

So I say “Yes” the blokes one of my closest friends in the world.

”He has been involved in an accident and they are just loading him into the air ambulance, we can’t contact his next of kin.....he was able to say your name before he lost consciousness”

”Is he dead ?” I say

”We don’t know” they reply !

His mum and dad were away on holiday.

So I leave the job and head for home to contact one of his relatives and I get a call from the London hospital “you better get here we don’t know if he is going to live”

So I head down there and when they brought my friend out of the operating theatre I cried !

I have seen things (without being dramatic) that not many men have seen but seeing my friend like a battered carcass in a trolley was terrible.

His head was like a medicine ball and his body was in tatters.

That crash happened at 40mph when someone turned right across the road in front of him ! 
He lived but it was life changing.......motorbikes ?........no thanks

I put over 50k miles on a gsxr and never hit and drain and got thrown into oncoming traffic.i have had the back end slip and slide dozens of times.and what's really weird is after a good few years riding.

I was commuting 1 morning mid winter in the dark pissing down rain.

Pulled out to overtake a car and starting winding the throttle on.the back end slipped under power to the right about 1ft and before I could mentally react to the situation.my throttle hand shut the throttle a little bit and the bike corrected itself.i then opened it up and completed the over take.

Very very strange when your body reacts on its own before you can mentally react.

Awful mate...

We had bikes from about 6 years old, scramblers and trials bikes, my brother loved it.. he would find old bikes and do em up, had all sorts of shit, back garden was like a scrap yard.

I rode them but wasn't my passion, brother has road bike now, some big 1200 BMW thing that goes like shit off a shovel, I dread him going out on it to be honest, 1 mistake from you or anyone else on the road and it's life changing.... not for me.

That's the downside mate.they can be dangerous especially what happened to your mate.cars pulling out or making crazy manovers etc.i always felt safer riding in the dark as any light coming from a side road etc could be seen from a good distance away.in the day time you wouldn't see a car untill it pulled out.

I've stood on a kerb and seen a bike rider die on the white line directly infront of us 6ft away.evening time.it shook me up for a good few days I will be honest.

Hi Ken, hope you are well. Not sure if you have heard about *** ***** ? He had a bike accident on Saturday and is now in Southampton hospital pretty banged up. Brocken back. Punctured lung, Brocken ribs to name the main injuries. He is responding to WhatsApp etc.

Me and my mates all grew up around bikes, lost a really good friend in a bike accident 27 years ago this Halloween but if I'm honest it never put any of us of riding bikes, been a couple more bikes deaths of people I've known well over the years but the fcuking things get under your skin.
