still got half a dozen shirts some sandals  toiletries and beach towels  at a  friends bar  from last year --- your suit case will be over weight with all them spices she says

When we go out to the old man's place in Crete there is a little market in the square, get bag fulls of fruit, veg, honey, spices etc... a butchers just up from his place is a friend now, so get treated well...the fresh food is lovely... there is a small restaurant up into the hills behind his place that was owned originally (when we first went over) by a really old fella, you'd basically sit in his front room and he'd take a beer out of the fridge and pass you it whilst you looked over over the village and out to sea ..well his grandchildren have taken on the place since he died, and they are very good chefs...the food is stunning, the views as good as anywhere...but it ain't quite the same as sitting in the old man's front room..lol.. we took the kids a few times now, its there favourite place to eat..

I've missed a holiday this year!

Ground turmeric is available at any shop, it's the "in" thing at the moment.

I do loads of Arabic, Indian, Chinese, Thai cooking, and everything is available at Asda !

Cheers.

Same mate, my mums best friend when we lived in Bristol was an Indian woman, we ate a lot of curries and always seemed to have a cauldron on the go!! Lol

I love cooking curry, there is no wrong or right, just what you like... vegetable curries are great as well... there's a book called the curry bible, I would seriously advise it to anyone who likes to make proper base sauces for curries, once you get the base sauce right the rest is pretty easy...

I always like the look of cashew curry, it’s Shri Lankan I think......I could go a bit of that.

You say that; I made a 'curry' one night stoned, it's consisted of bacon, chicken, potatoe wedges and broccoli and whilst high it was the greatest thing ever. Tried it again when sober and could have barfed

When I lived in the Middle East, the best curries were from the TCN compound canteens. Real Indian, Paki, Thai curries that they would eat, not what westerners wanted.

Like Thailand 20/30 years ago, street food was what Thais ate, not catered to westerners tastes.

As someone once said to me;  "if you want bush food, you gotta go bush ! ".

Cheers.

A Kilo of Fennel seeds seems a bit over kill?

  Thanks :)

Lads; The above is my initial shopping list, based simply on what a base gravy and a madras recipe says I'll need.

Perhaps I should go back to those recipes and make careful note of where a 'Half Teaspoon' is required? Try to get a feel for what I'll be using a touch of, here and there. And which will be mainstays, used by the Tablespoon, every time.

Meanwhile, if anyone in the know could give any pointers, please?

Thanks.

Mate, send me the list of what you need, I'll get you all the spices and send over...pm your address and ill sort for you...

You are spending a fortune for no reason mate.

That's a crazy generous offer! Thank you so much.

However, we need to sort the Above question out first, see? Where to get them has been a right PITA. But, knowing What / How much would probably end up costing me a severe overspend too. That stupid Kilo of fennel seeds is plain to anyone. But, I simply have no clue how much I'll be using, eg. Cloves or Garam Masala.

I need to figure out what to bulk buy and what to just get 'samples' of :)

You got garlic?

Excellent point! Thanks!

Yes; It's fukking Amazing how all this has altered my entire perspective. But, yeah, the other day there I'm at the fruit and veg stall. Buying my few spuds and couple of onions. And I'm eyeballing the other gear!

Red, Green, Yellow Peppers. Garlic Cloves. Fresh Ginger?! And I'm thinking; " One of these days, my old mate, I'm gonna fukkin' blow your mind! When I start snatching up peppers 'n shit! :D "

All that stuff used to just be background noise in my existence. Vile, weird shit that 'Other' people might find some disgusting use for.

Now? I'm seriously concerned about whether garlic might be better in the white, or purple skinned kind?  ?

Well, how timely that this one should be resurrected tonight. Because I've Literally just come in from the kitchen where, as I slung the powder in my curry, I realised I only had enough left for one more! There's a dilemma!

I was thinking how I could buy a sack of sprouts, next week and go into full Winter diet mode. Little option, at this rate, as " Mushroom " has me on ignore and I haven't heard back from that Spanish outfit yet.

So, I have no stove - yet - to make a proper one on. May as well ~ wait for it! ~ Put my curries on a back burner! (Fukking bite me! :D)
