Axholme Ferreter 0
Just bought another couple of 25 yd longnets to add to my collection for daytime ferreting. The only problem is I bought the by mail order and I forgot to ask what colour they were. They arrived this week and are a very light colour green, my others are all dark green or brown. I think they will stand out and put rabbits off from bolting in to them, especially in the hedgerows. They are 6z twisted nylon, has anyone tried dying or colouring nylon long nets. Does anything worK? All the best AF Quote Link to post
mole catcher 1
YES YOU CAN DYE NYLON NETS go to woolworths and you will see they do a dye called dylon. little round tub about the size of a 50p. just follow the easy instructions. REMEMBER YOU WONT GET A TRUE COLOUR AS THE COULOR OF THE NET WILL EFFECT IT. remember at school, blue + yellow make green and all that arty stuff ive dyed loads of nets over the yrs Quote Link to post

Axholme Ferreter 0
Yep, thats the colour. I would have expected that it would make them shy away, obviously I'm wrong looking at your photo. Thanks mate. All the best AF Quote Link to post
R_Oldroyd 17
Hi The colour you have bought your net in will make no difference at all. Rabbits don't see colours as we do. They can only see shade ie light and dark thats why my hemp nets are dipped. I think that white and black are no nos though. Their eyes are more in tune to see movement not colour as far as i'm aware. Regards Roger. Edited January 11, 2008 by R_Oldroyd Quote Link to post
mole catcher 1
is it this colour mate, if so , dont wory it will catch im glad im not the only one whos not bothered by the colour of my nets. a while back there was a heated debate between myself and another person regarding net colour, those jade green nets inperticular. like i said in my first reply, follow the simple instructions and you wont go wrong. as we speak i have a new longnet being dyed for the customer, hand made, 2tone net. green and brown. made in nice 10/6spun nylon, will be a good killing net Quote Link to post

gav000 0
Hi guys, i have a few white nets, most of the time i use them for ferreting, so far i have not found that the white colour is putting off the rabbits from bolting into it. do you think that it would be better to dye the nets or just leave it??? MikeTheDog 153
I’ve never seen a rabbit turn from a light green 10/6 handmade net yet…. Although this white jobbie caught a few the rabbits more often than not turned away from the heavy white mesh.. Whether it be black or white one things for sure!.....With a dog on its arse coney aint paying too much attention to colour… Heavy nets will turn a rabbit imo whether it be a mass of white black or even green. A decent handmade net or even the mass produced 4z/6z webs that most here use will catch well no matter what the colour is. Quote Link to post
J Darcy 5,871
Colour doesnt matter IMHO....we even used monofilament longnets that were quite white and the hares and rabbits still went in with no problem at all. Quote Link to post
DUCKWING 302
WELL LADS , PURSE NETS .......... I AM NOT REALLY BOTHERED WHAT COLOUR THEY ARE ,......... EVEN THE WHITE SPUN NYLON ONES SOON END UP HEMP COLOURED THROUGH THE SOIL LONGNETS ? ........... WELL ... IMO ..... WHEN USED IN THEIR RIGHTFUL PLACE .......AFTER DARK VERY LIGHT OR VERY DARK COLOURS CAN CAUSE WARY CONYS TO RUN THE LENGTH OF THE NET , IVE SEEN THIS A FEW TIMES IN THE NIGHT VISION OF A MATES ....... HOWEVER THATS WHERE RUNNING PATCHES OF DIFFERENT COLOURS LIKE BROWN OR GREEN DYE...COME INTO PLAY , ON CERTAIN SETS IT STILL PAYS TO CRANK OR TAIL END THE NETS ITS SURPRIZEING HOW MANY CAN BE CAUGHT IN THAT WAY ..... IN CERTAIN CONDITIONS BUT AS SAID , ....... WHEN USED IN FERRETING ...... WITH DOGS THE RABBITS ATTENSION IS FIRMLY ON THE DOG , NOT A NET AS FAR AS I CAN SEE FROM THE PHOTO , I HAVE A NICE 50 YDS NET ABOUT THE SAME " JADE " COLOUR ............ A LOVELY PRESENT FROM THAT GENTLEMAN NETRIGGER , ....... I CAN TELL YOU LADS ONE THING DAY OR NIGHT IVE NEVER NOTICED CONYS TURNING FROM THIS WEB ALL THE BEST DUCKWING Quote Link to post
MikeTheDog 153
Not a very good picture I'm afraid, the longnet in the picture is a light blue and it caught the rabbit ...And as you can see it had plenty of time to see it . The reason for having it so far from the bury was to allow Meg' to have some sport...oh, and to get some pic's.. Edited January 17, 2008 by MikeTheDog Quote Link to post
