Popular Post JDHUNTING 1,817
Found this tree on my travels one time down Bristol way. I was absolutely blown away by the sheer scale and beauty of it and it ranks up there if not above with any animal I've seen for just being in awe of nature. Not the greatest pics as they don't do justice to it but thought I'd share anyhow. Anybody else have any other oaks or great trees worth checking out if I'm ever in the area? There's a yew tree just up the road from me with a trunk that must be 10-12ft across I'm gonna go measure this week now I've reminded myself. May e boring for some but I think their awesome if they could talk they'd have some tales to tell. You can see why their so steeped in our folklore when your up close to trees like this. 26

WILF 47,354
My favourite tree, it’s the symbol of England to me way above St George. The connection go’s back much further to our ancestors as the Oak tree was sacred I believe. It was special to all the north European people but especially to us Britons, Celts and our German kin

The house i live in isn't very far at all from where The Winfarthing Oak stood (google it) and many years ago the old fella who used to live here went and picked some acorns from it and put them in a tin in the shed.Years later he died and a pal of his was helping his misses clear out the shed and he found the acorns and knew where they were from and took them home with him,one sprouted and grew into a little tree and he took the little tree back to his dead pals misses and planted it in her garden. It still grows here and although the leaves and acorns do my fecking head in i just cannot cut it down now i know the story..So anyone want some proper acorns d from a mighty oaks direct desendant then come fill your buckets......
