THE Ronaldo did more and he did it having absolute chunks taken out of him week in, week out as did every player of his generation. To illustrate what I mean I’m going to make a big statement that I’m sure plenty of people will say is bollocks but I genuinely believe it, if Raheem Sterling had been playing in 98 he wouldn’t have got in an Arsenal, Manchester United, Inter Milan or Juventus side.....he may have been on the bench but he wouldn’t make the starting 11 !! That is the gulf imho That's what my uncle says when he claims Maradona is the best ever. He was playing in an era where at times they were literally trying to break his legs. Plus you have the fact that he basically won Napoli the Serie A and UEFA Cup titles singlehandedly for the first time in their history and also Argentina a World Cup. Now imagine he played for Barca , had the greatest season of all time average slightly under a goal a game , won five trophies and At the end of the year played in the World Cup fans was top scorer and best player . them went to inter and did it all again before again at Real Madrid . Kind of kills the arguement doesn’t it ?

Exactly mate, that’s what I’m talking about......there have been such fundamental changes to football and what referees will stand in Messi’s era that you can’t measure him against other players. The rule changes were a double edged sword in my opinion because they were designed with more of a pure technical style of play in mind which is good but they took a lot of the blood and guts out of the game......when you can be as good as Henry or Ronaldo and make you brain and feet work whilst at the same time trying to avoid getting smashed with a 90mph tackle by Jaap Stam then you really are good. Players basically having to stand off you and be careful is not anything like the same test of talent or ability imho
THE STIFFMEISTER 16,139
Personally I do t think Messi is going anywhere , I think he’s scaring the club into big changes from the top down . realistically the man is on nigh on 4 million a month. T shirt sales can only go so far , so what’s the step ? city ? I just don’t see him there. chelsea ? They are 2 \ 3 years away from winning anything , he hasn’t the time . liverpool ? it’s PSG for me , but maybe just maybe ......I would love it , actually love it if he went to Milan . zlatan has just signed another deal there and I can imagine him what’s apping Messi . “come to Milan with zlatan , zlatan win things , you know this “ One last hurrah in serie A with a big club on the decline , against his nemesis . messi will always be the company man to ronaldos rogue trader, why not one last duel and see who comes out on top ??

Pele was the best in the world but again, he was playing against players who’s warm up was Sausage, Egg, Chips and a pint of Guinness before training or a game. Obviously for me Bobby Moore is special but I’m under no illusions he would have been good enough to play in the French World Cup winning side of 98.....they had everything, what they were eating, training, physical robustness, talent, ability and aggression. Imho that era was the culmination of everything that had gone before it and has yet to be bettered. And in fact mate, we will never be able to compare because as I say, it’s different rules now.

I agree about scaring the club but I don't see koeman as a pep or klopp to have that man management skills to try and keep him plus it's it true telling his best mate over the phone he's going that's got messis back up also I can see Barcelona digging there heels in over the date of his contract realise and may force him to stay Edited August 29, 2020 by Blackmag

THE STIFFMEISTER 16,139
Out of likes lads but some good sensible chat about football for a change . I said I was done with it this year after lockdown , sky sports etc cancelled but If Messi goes to the premier league I’ll probably renew to be honest them f***ing scousers winning it has wrecked it for me , all the smug fans re emerging from the woodwork after decades of shite Has snapped me . One lad I know is offering hundred quid wagers that Liverpool will win it again to all and sundry , wonder if Messi goes to city will make his arse fall out
Blackmag 6,104
I see Chelsea are said to be splashing even more money in theses next few weeks and even are supposed to be interested in Messi be more closer this time I think with city sorting there defence
