I'd say that most people that own and work lurchers, can't be bothered with the hassle etc of breeding and rearing a litter

Mate I’m in the same opinion I done 2 litters it would of only been one litter if my young un didn’t die but dealing with fools in this game as put me off breeding my own replacements it’s to much hassle dealing with people id rather just pay over what I’m willing to pay for the right gear or if I do breed go old school breed for what I need an the rest is history via a vet

Heres a greyhound/deerhound(first x) cross collie/greyhound(first x) the photos in Bill Dohertys book its his mates dog looks mighty fine to me and a decent dog by all acount

A few deerhound greyhound collie greyhounds I've had over the years. All very capable catch dogs, the big dog in the top pic would take teeth no problem and work round the hole all day long. A litter

Morton is alway praising this x.... I'd personally want a drop of wheaton or bull instead of the collie if it was me?

If you’re passionate about dogs why would you see it as such a hassle? It’s a bit of hard work if you do it properly but it shouldn’t feel like a chore from a good bitch, should be excited for the pups not moaning about cleaning up the shit or feeding them.

Not just the rearing that’s not the problem I think sharks on about half the dickheads in this game that are pretenders then finding out down the road people who have had pups of you are horrible little c**ts that have dealt pups a shitty deck of cards an done wrong by them it’s a hassle to have on your mind even when people have vouched for people being decent

I live in a small council house with four running dogs. I've bred pups before and would again but not in these circumstances, besides which, unless your bitch is a bit special you could probably buy better than you could breed if you look around carefully.

I wouldn’t necessarily agree with that, buying a lurcher is a minefield, people think the grass is always greener but if you have a decent bitch that you like, breeding her will almost always be better than buying a pup that’s for sale to the general public. Always starts a big argument the breeding, buying, selling topic but personally I’d never buy an advertised lurcher pup again in my life.

Just keep what you have homes for and pts the rest,  no need for a bitch to have more than 6 pups on her imo... Fair play to the lads that rear 10/12 pups a time, but it ain't for me?

It's good to see the pups grow and have pick of litter too but in my case it aint practical. Something like jigsaw's litter off of here was a great option for the lads that got pups. I got my current young one from a family of dogs I'd been following the progress of and I'm pleased enough with him.

If you know the parents & saw them work that’s a good starting point. But if it’s bred by someone you know i suppose that’s different to seeing an advert and ringing up a stranger. So many lies told about dogs you can almost guarantee buying a pup off a stranger you won’t get the full truth.

I bred off a 1stx bitch just as the foot and mouth started and was doing her job, anyway I decided to put my mates brothers whippet over to bring the size down. The dogs made 25tts the bitches 23tts,she had 10 pups which 1 I kept 1 went to the lad next door for £10,1 went to the sires owner then 1 to his brother£30 and to another friend £30.These pups were getting fed 4times a day on fresh rabbits minced fresh mince from a butcher I know and dry meal mixed. The bitch i I put on double bait as I knew 10 pups would drain her.Any I pup the other 5 on that yellow paper £50 a pup that was out when they were 8wks old as I was starting to get the bitch fit as I had gave her to Jeff fenoroli from wales to run on with his 1stx dog so the would of been a pup for me.I was out the back of the house 1 night to see if I could get another fox with her before she went to wales, and this knobhead rang me who was only 3 miles away asked if I could drop a pup off for him and would I take less. This was November time and prity cold so I had constant heat on in the shed for them which cost extra.I told him to walk 3 miles to get it as if I was that keen I would of.As I’ve don’t further when I was younger,or see if he could get a lift, after another couple of minutes crack I told him to f**k off and go and pester someone else.Every one who came for the spare pups were over the moon and some kept in touch even i lad on here got one and was well impressed with what it was catch when it was up.That was the only litter of lurcher pups I’ve bred in 40yrs because of the idiots you deal with. Here is a pick of my mate bitch when she was about 6yrs old he got off me and is one of them that would never breed his own.

'confused' = I'd say folk "Subaru" because they want to and they aren't going to choose a deer X grey, the same as they aren't going to choose lots of other crosses..

Most folk that worked and bred DG/CG's and deerhound lurchers simply aren't on the scene anymore

you do realise that because people Subaru or drive that the sheer amount of stuff they see determines the type of dog that’s needed.

im sure If the often eulogised deerhound grey was given a few encounters Near enough  back to back rather than one every couple of weeks and was capable of wanting more , then you would see more of them about .

Just a thought
